Michele Pirro has shared an update on Marc Marquez’s pre-season preparations after his 2025 title-winning campaign was cut short through injury.

Marc Marquez will be defending his MotoGP title this season for the first time since 2020.

The Spaniard was unable to put up a proper defence that year due to the injury he sustained at the opening round of the championship, which ruled him out of competition for the rest of the season.

This time around, Marquez has been fighting to recover from a broken collarbone sustained at the 2025 edition of the Indonesian Grand Prix last year.

He had hoped to be fit for MotoGP’s post-season test in November, but Marquez decided against a rushed rehabilitation period due to the complications that arose during his first attempted recovery in 2020.

Michele Pirro says Marc Marquez is ‘looking good’ after seeing his first laps since injury

Ducati test rider Michele Pirro was present at the Aspar circuit with Marquez and an assortment of other MotoGP riders who were taking part in some training laps ahead of the first pre-season tests of the year.

The training session was momentarily halted due to a crash on the track, and it emerged that Fermin Aldeguer had fractured his left femur during an incident at turn one.

After the Murcian native was taken to Barcelona in order for him to undergo surgery on Friday, the session recommenced, and Pirro was able to follow the reigning world champion around the circuit for a number of laps.

Asked by GPOne how Marquez fared atop two wheels again, the Ducati man replied, “There’s a bit of excitement in the pit now. We’re fixing Marc’s bike back here.

“The V2 training bike; it ran today, did lots of laps, and everything’s fine. We went for a few rides together, he was happy, and he enjoyed himself.

“Tomorrow we’ll do another day. It’ll be nice because his brother will be there too. Let’s say it’s looking good.”

Marc Marquez may also take part in a World Superbike test at the end of the month

Following his successful return to action in Valencia, Marquez may also take part in a World Superbike test at the end of the month if he deems it appropriate for his preparations.

Spearheaded by Nicolo Bulega, who replaced the injury-stricken Spaniard for the final two rounds of the 2025 MotoGP campaign, Ducati have made the test available for their prototype riders in recent years.

The event coincides with MotoGP’s first official session of the year, a pre-season shakedown test, which will be taking place in Sepang on the final weekend of the month.

The shakedown is usually undertaken by the test riders of each respective team on the grid in order to ensure that everything is working properly on the bikes that have been in development over the winter break.
