How long Pedro Acosta’s femur recovery took as Fermin Aldeguer suffers same injury during training

Fermin Aldeguer is set to undergo surgery after suffering a fracture to his left femur during preparations for the upcoming 2026 MotoGP campaign.

The injury marks a significant blow for Fermin Aldeguer, who was training ahead of pre-season testing for his sophomore season in the premier class.

After an impressive debut campaign that saw him crowned as MotoGP’s rookie of the year, it remains to be seen how long the Murcian native will be out of action for. He is set to undergo surgery in Barcelona on Friday.

The new season is steadily approaching. It is understood that Aldeguer will be ruled out of the initial shakedown test at the end of January, and a return to full fitness before the final test of pre-season in Buriram isn’t guaranteed.

Initial reports have suggested that the Gresini star suffered a highside at turn one of the Aspar circuit in Valencia, with strong gusts of wind in the area being attributed as the leading factor for the incident.

Pedro Acosta was ruled out for seven weeks after fracturing his left femur in 2022

Fellow Murcian Pedro Acosta previously suffered a similar injury during his maiden Moto2 campaign in 2022.

The current factory KTM man suffered a fracture to his left femur during a motocross training session accident between the German GP and Dutch TT rounds of that year, and was ruled out for a total of seven weeks before making his return.

Fortunately for Acosta, there weren’t any lingering effects of the injury upon his return to action.

The Spaniard came back flying at the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix, securing a fourth-place finish despite the lack of racing he had recently endured.

The main difference between Acosta and Aldeguer’s injuries is the fact that the former was able to benefit from Moto2’s summer break at the time, which gave him an extra few weeks to recuperate.

On the other hand, Aldeguer doesn’t have long at all before his on-track rivals begin to stretch an advantage out on him by taking part in the pre-season tests with their new bikes.

With Ducati’s GP25 being notoriously difficult for Francesco Bagnaia in 2025, Aldeguer will have hoped to have had as much time as possible on his new spec of bike before the commencement of the new season.

Fermin Aldeguer’s agent sends a heartfelt message to him on social media

After the news of Aldeguer’s misfortune broke on Thursday afternoon, a wave of fans took to social media to express their support for the stricken 20-year-old.

His agent, Hector Faubel, was among those sending words of encouragement, commenting under MotoGP’s announcement on Instagram, “We will come back stronger! We will take care of you because you are the best person I know. Always with you.”

The 2026 campaign was tipped to be Aldeguer’s breakout season before potentially securing a ride at the factory Ducati MotoGP outfit for 2027.

Luigi Dall’Igna has tipped Aldeguer to be the future of Ducati, and many fans regard him as the natural successor to Marc Marquez if the reigning world champion opts to depart the team at the end of the upcoming term.
