Jack Miller saw how much happier Marc Marquez was in MotoGP after leaving Honda for Gresini

Marc Marquez found his world-beating form again in 2025 with Ducati, but it was the season before that his rivals noticed that he was on his way back to his former self.

The break-up between Marc Marquez and Honda marked the end of one of the most dominant rider/team partnerships in MotoGP history.

Having spent the first 11 years of his premier class career in the famous orange overalls of the Honda Repsol team, the Spaniard decided to look for greener pastures, settling on a seat alongside his brother, Alex Marquez, at the Ducati satellite team, Gresini Racing.

Marquez revealed his motivation behind the move was to see if he still had what it takes to compete against the very best riders in the world, even opting to ride for free in order to facilitate the switch.

As Jorge Martin and Francesco Bagnaia fought it out for the title on factory-spec Ducati machinery, Marquez proved to be the next best rider, finishing third in the riders’ standings following the conclusion of his maiden season with the Italian constructor.

As well as the obvious results that came with the move, a smile returned to Marquez’s face. After enduring several years of injury hardships, the Spaniard had finally found himself on an upward trajectory.

The change was noted by Jack Miller in a 2024 appearance on the Motorbike Pod, where he disclosed a conversation that he had with Marquez during the riders’ parade of a Grand Prix that year.

The Australian fan-favourite said, “You can still enjoy this, and you don’t have to be a robot, but you can go your own way about it. There’s a time and a place for everything, and you need to enjoy it.

“I saw, for example, Marc this year, and he seemed like a whole different person. He’s changed a lot, and he’s enjoying it. I literally said it to him on a Sunday morning after a warm-up.

“I saw him, and he was sort of bigging up the crowd and all that, and I said, ‘You’ve changed, you’re enjoying it more, aren’t you?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, I’m so much better.'”

Jack Miller found Marc Marquez’s title-winning campaign in 2025 very impressive

Marquez managed to do something at Ducati that Miller was unable to during his two-year tenure with the Borgo Panigale-based factory: win a riders’ championship.

Despite it being the most successful couple of seasons that the Australian has experienced in MotoGP, Miller stated that he doesn’t ‘miss’ riding for Ducati due to the amount of media spotlight that a seat there comes with.

Due to the fact of their stature as Italy’s leading motorcycle racing outfit, their tifosi hold them in a very high regard.

The Ant of Cervera captured the hearts of both Ducati’s fans and his Australian MotoGP rival during his most recent title-winning campaign, with Miller highlighting how impressive Marquez’s form was off the back of his injury nightmare in recent years.
