Fermin Aldeguer will be hoping to improve on his rookie of the year campaign last year in 2026, and Chris Vermeulen believes that the youngster already has the keys to beating the best rider on the grid, Marc Marquez.
Fermin Aldeguer became the first rookie in the premier class to secure a maiden win since Jorge Martin in 2021 after taking victory at the Indonesian Grand Prix by nearly seven seconds.
The future looks bright for the 20-year-old, who has already been tipped to be the ‘future of Ducati’ by Borgo Panigale’s Luigi Dall’Igna.
One of the biggest advantages that Aldeguer has is the presence of Frankie Carchedi in his corner. The British crew chief has ample experience with winning riders, after previously servicing Joan Mir’s side of the Suzuki garage during the Spaniard’s 2021 title-winning campaign.
Fill in the blank: Fermin Aldeguer will win ___ MotoGP titles in his career.
Chris Vermeulen details how Frankie Carchedi is helping Fermin Aldeguer after working with Marc Marquez
In a recent appearance on the Motorsport Republica podcast, former MotoGP rider Chris Vermeulen was asked for his opinion of the premier class’s 2025 rookie of the year.
The experience that Carchedi brings to the table is immense, given that he is also the same man who served as Marc Marquez’s crew chief during his season-long stint at the Italian satellite team in 2024.
During his assessment of the young Murcian rider’s talents, Vermeulen highlighted how Carchedi is using his previous encounters to bolster Aldeguer’s skillset, saying, “He’s really, really good in low-grip situations, and he uses his size.
“Look, he’s with probably the best crew chief to work with, Frankie Carchedi. He’s got a lot of experience, worked with Marc last year.
“And Frankie said he learned so much from Marc last year himself. Now, he’s able to help Fermin in that way.
“He said, ‘He said he’s better than Marc in right-hand corners now, and we’re learning what Marc does in the lefts. We’re learning what Marc does to put a weekend together.’
“When he says we, he’s helping Fermin do it. And he said that the kid is going to be good. He’s going to be very, very good. He’s got some advantages in his size.”
Is Fermin Aldeguer a future MotoGP world champion?
Fermin Aldeguer is hoping to secure a factory Ducati bike for the 2027 MotoGP season
After producing a stellar debut season in the premier class last year, Aldeguer was unfortunate not to have received a factory bike from Ducati, with it instead going in the direction of his Gresini teammate, Alex Marquez.
Ducati backed out of a ‘commitment’ in Aldeguer’s contract, which would have seen him ride atop the same calibre of bike as the factory outfit. He has instead received compensation that will reportedly benefit him in years to come.
The Spaniard previously explained how Marquez could aid his quest for a factory Ducati bike in 2027 because of the added pressure that the 29-year-old now has on his shoulders to perform in the best possible spec of machinery.
