Toprak Razgatlioglu has to be one of the most exciting rookie riders in MotoGP history heading into the 2026 season.

The three-time World Superbike champion will be 29 years old when he makes his MotoGP debut in March, which is slightly older than average.

Razgatlioglu has waited years for a serious opportunity to arise in the premier class and has secured a multi-year deal.

It affords him the opportunity to relax his body with Yamaha in 2026 and try to take everything in before making a serious push in 2027.

Razgatlioglu could redefine ‘modern riding’, according to an engineer who has worked across multiple motorcycle championships.

If Yamaha continue to improve, Razgatlioglu could convince Fabio Quartararo to stay. The pairing of them at the factory team would be very exciting.

Toprak Razgatlioglu told he has the same approach to racing as Casey Stoner

Razgatlioglu thinks he can challenge Marc Marquez in 2027, believing that the introduction of a new tyre manufacturer (Pirelli) will help him reach the top.

He’s used to them from his World Superbike endeavours, but that’s not what is in front of him right now. That’s another year away yet.

MotoGP manager Alberto Vergani has just compared the Turkish rider to two-time champion Casey Stoner, and told GPOne that their approach to racing is similar.

“Casey Stoner once told me, ‘When you have one bike, think only about that one and how to ride it the best you can, because the moment you look at the other one you lose energy and you’ve already lost at the start.’

“That’s where Toprak comes in. He said to me in Valencia, ‘This year, I went off track because of the chassis. The moment I stopped complaining and focused only on riding and what I could do with the BMW, I solved my problems.’

“Hearing these words reminded me of Casey. For me, Razgatlioglu is a Stoner 2. Revenge.”

What can Toprak Razgatlioglu be expected to achieve in 2026?

Even though there is a lot of optimism for the future, it must be remembered that Razgatlioglu is joining a team that just finished bottom of the teams’ standings.

Yes, they managed to win a riders’ title in 2024, but that was under a previous era with Ducati. Now, they’re with Yamaha and the new V4 engine.

Realistically, fighting for the top 10 in half of the races would be a success. There are some circuits that Razgatlioglu will visit for the first time, and that will take some adjustment.

Razgatlioglu is stressed about his MotoGP debut and knows that there will be plenty of eyes on him. A solid result early on would give him a lot of breathing room.
