Marc Marquez is on the road to recovery after his 2025 MotoGP title-winning season was cut short through injury, with the Ducati rider finally about to get back on a bike.
The 32-year-old dominated the premier class field throughout 2025 after joining the factory Ducati team on a two-season contract. But only one round after winning his seventh title to date in Japan, Marquez sustained a shoulder injury in Indonesia that would require surgery.
Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi took Marquez out on the first lap at Mandalika, and the Ducati star’s trip through the gravel trap saw him suffer a coracoid fracture and ligament damage in his right shoulder blade. Marquez underwent an operation to repair his shoulder in October.
Marquez has not ridden a bike since his crash, but he recently shared images on a mountain bike. The Spaniard also revealed at Ducati’s Campioni in Festa that he intends to get back on a bike next week, as the bone has reattached itself and the ligament is where it needs to be.
Would the factory Ducati team have won the 2025 MotoGP title without Marc Marquez?
Marc Marquez found it mentally ‘challenging’ to repeat his process after his arm injury
Marquez is only operating at “70-80 per cent”, but his road to recovery is progressing. It has not been an entirely easy road, as Marquez admits it was mentally “challenging” to know he had to repeat his process after his arm injury at Jerez in 2020 following his shoulder surgery.

The Cervera native suffered a career-threatening injury during the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix, when he broke his right humerus after tumbling through the gravel trap following a highside at Turn 3. Marquez ultimately underwent four separate surgeries over the next three years.
Marquez said about his shoulder injury, via Motorsport.com: “It was tough psychologically, but winning made it a little easier. Physically, it wasn’t hard. But mentally, doing the same things I’d already done four times since 2020 was challenging.
“If you want to recover like I did now, you have to wake up at eight in the morning and work until seven in the evening.
“But, above all, because you don’t make progress every day, there are days when you even take a step back. That’s where I needed patience, the same patience I’ve used on the track this year.”
Marc Marquez’s shoulder injury prevented him from setting a new record for the most wins in a season
Who was the most surprising rider during Sprint Races in 2025?
Marquez registered one of his most successful seasons in MotoGP to date during 2025 after joining Ducati. The Spaniard earned 11 Grand Prix wins and 14 Sprint Race wins from the 18 out of the 22 rounds that he contested. He also won the 2025 title with five rounds to spare.
But Marquez would not challenge his record set in 2019 for the most wins in a single season of 12 Grand Prix victories due to his shoulder injury. It is the first major injury that Marquez has had since his horrific ordeal after breaking his arm during the 2020 Spanish GP at Jerez.
Marquez was ‘”afraid” his arm would never recover due to the infections and complications he endured in between surgeries. He ultimately had to have a fourth operation to have the bone rebroken and set back into place after the bone had twisted by more than 30 degrees.
