Fabio Quartararo told he has ‘twisted’ the DNA of Yamaha’s MotoGP bike after constant complaints

Fabio Quartararo has been heavily critical of Yamaha in 2025 as he desperately tries to improve the manufacturer and get them back to winning ways.

The Frenchman is becoming increasingly frustrated with the Iwata outfit as they fail to provide him with a competitive bike. Despite grabbing five pole positions in 2025, he converted only one into a podium as the pace of the M1 let him down.

Now, the 26-year-old is demanding change at Yamaha as they introduce the V4 project. He wants to see progress from the machine as he assesses his future in MotoGP in 2026.

Which bike will Fabio Quartararo be riding in 2027?

Quartararo has ‘no time’ to wait as he wants to be winning races next season. However, the feeling is that Quartararo is unsatisfied with the V4 after seeing it in wildcard entries and in testing.

Yamaha admit the V4 has faced ‘setbacks’ during its development. But staff have constantly reiterated that the bike is more like a Yamaha, unlike the M1, thanks to Quartararo’s complaints.

Fabio Quartararo ‘twisted’ the DNA of Yamaha’s M1 – the V4 is more like a Yamaha according to staff

Speaking via The Race MotoGP Podcast, journalist Simon Patterson shared how Yamaha staff have always said that the V4 has their ‘DNA’. By not having as much of Quartararo’s input, they have found a machine that is more suited to them, rather than the M1 that was ‘twisted’ by the Frenchman.

He said: “So, they’re building this whole new V4 that has to be built. And [it] actually seems that by letting Andrea Dovizioso build the V4 along with Augusto Fernandez, and not letting Fabio have all that much input into it, that it’s become more Yamaha than the current M1 is.

“They’ve kind of been able to go back to a bike that is a bit more Yamaha, power delivery, smoothness, about Yamaha corner speed. All of the guys have said over and over and over again that it has Yamaha DNA.

“And I think that’s maybe something that the current inline four doesn’t have because of the way that Fabio has kind of twisted it and morphed it into what it is right now, in an attempt to stay relevant essentially with everyone else’s V4s.

“And with that work, I mean, it’s not done, but it’s close to done now.”

Yamaha are not happy with Fabio Quartararo’s complaints

Quartararo has made it clear that he will leave Yamaha if the V4 cannot give him the tools to win races. But these are comments that are not appreciated by the Iwata outfit.

Paolo Pavesio says Quartararo complains too much and has told him to look at the figures as to how close he is getting to his rivals. It has been reported that Yamaha staff are not happy with Quartararo.

Maio Meregalli says Quartararo’s feedback is sometimes ‘off the mark’ in debriefs. They will want to see that improve in 2026, but the rider is ultimately putting all the pressure on his team behind the scenes.

The Frenchman has made his intentions known for 2027, and teams are already taking notice. Aprilia have ‘initiated contacts’ to sign Quartararo, with Ducati also being interested.
