For the first time in nearly 20 years, MotoGP will have a Brazilian rider on the grid during the 2026 season.
Recently crowned Moto2 champion Diogo Moreira managed to secure a multi-year deal to progress to the premier class ahead of some impressive competition.
The 21-year-old went from strength to strength in 2025, and his development is part of what convinced Honda to sign him for the LCR team.
Now he gets one year to adjust to MotoGP before a new set of regulations arrive in 2027, giving him some time to make mistakes before pressure arrives to score results.
Toprak Razgatlioglu gave Moreira some advice when the two met to discuss their first official MotoGP session with their new teams.
Marc Marquez told Moreira Honda was the right choice before he signed his contract with them. He sought advice from one of the best in the business.

Diogo Moreira asks Marc Marquez for ‘advice’ during 2025 title celebrations
Moreira rejected Yamaha and Trackhouse before settling for Honda, and time will tell if it was the right move to make.
Currently, Trackhouse are contending for podiums, courtesy of a very strong Aprilia bike. The most logical short-term move was to go there.
Instead, he showed faith in Honda’s project, and potentially has eyes on a factory seat with them, particularly if he goes well in his rookie season.
His teammate is the oldest rider on the grid in Johann Zarco, and the Frenchman has winning experience. He should be able to help guide him throughout 2026.
Zarco warned Moreira that 2027 will not be ‘easy’ and require a lot of adaptability in order to be successful.

With that in mind, the young Brazilian turned to Marquez during his title celebrations to ask him for advice, following a tricky first test with Honda in Valencia last weekend.
“At the moment, no [doesn’t feel ready for MotoGP],” he said on stage during Marquez’s celebrations. “We had a test on Tuesday, and I’m still missing something, but, OK, maybe you’ll give me some advice.”

What was Diogo Moreira’s form like throughout the 2025 Moto2 season?
After winning the championship by 30 points, Moreira’s Moto2 championship battle was actually a lot harder than it may seem after looking at the final standings.
There was a four-way battle in advance of the final round in Valencia, where he finished 10th. In the six races prior, he actually finished in the top five on every occasion.
Nine podiums and four wins were enough to seal the deal in the end, which was a solid return after starting the season with one top-15 finish in three races.
He’s not expected to compete for podiums in 2026, but if Honda continues to improve, he might have a shot at one somewhere. Learning is the most important thing he can do over the next 12 months.
