Since Liberty Media’s acquisition of MotoGP was confirmed, there have been a number of Formula 1-inspired changes being thrown around. The latest proposal could see the premier class race on some of F1’s toughest street circuits.
Liberty Media’s arrival in the premier class was seen as a big win for the sport, after the American-based company turned MotoGP’s four-wheeled counterpart into a highly profitable global success story.
Similar amendments to the rulebook have been proposed in MotoGP, such as the addition of a cost cap that is being pushed by KTM to the dismay of Honda.
KTM chief Pit Beirer has also expressed his backing of a ‘mega’ race weekend that would see F1 and MotoGP fans unite to watch their beloved categories enter race weekends together.

Carmelo Ezpeleta has ‘no problem’ in adding Formula 1 street circuits to the MotoGP calendar
Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta is currently present at the latest street circuit addition to the F1 calendar in Las Vegas.
The race weekend in Sin City is one of the schedule’s highest-profile events, with the bright lights of the Las Vegas strip attracting the likes of global stars who have the necessary income to afford the various hospitality packages that stretch into the tens of thousands of dollars.
In an interview with DAZN in the pit lane, Ezpeleta was asked whether a future endeavour from MotoGP could see the grid race on some of the tight and narrow street circuits that have become a staple of the F1 calendar.
The CEO replied, “We have no problem racing on urban circuits; the only thing we need to have are run-off areas.
“Here, it is difficult to have escape areas, but there are some urban Formula 1 tracks that we could use.”
It remains to be seen which F1 street tracks would be suitable to provide a decent display of racing on two wheels, and as alluded to by Ezpeleta, some circuits would definitely need some amendments to cater for the safety of Grand Prix motorcycle riders.

Formula 1’s Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen have previously expressed interest in buying a MotoGP team
Two of the biggest names in F1 at the moment, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, have been linked with buying a MotoGP team throughout 2025.
Former premier class rider Sylvain Guintoli previously highlighted the ‘big numbers’ that he had heard floating around in the MotoGP paddock regarding a potential deal between a satellite team and the F1 world champions.
Their first-hand experience of the improvements in monetary value that Liberty Media have made in their own respective sport is sure to be one of the deciding factors in their interest, and it may be coming at the perfect possible time.
It’s understood that Verstappen would take a similar approach to Valentino Rossi if he is successful in acquiring his own two-wheeled racing outfit.
The Italian motorcycle racing legend isn’t too involved in the day-to-day operations of the team, which is something that the Dutchman would likely replicate.
