Jorge Martin was unable to put up much of a fight during his 2025 MotoGP title defence, and has shared how he felt watching Marc Marquez lift the riders’ championship for a seventh time.
The Spaniard had a torrid time during his debut year with Aprilia, with a string of different injuries plaguing his progress throughout the year.
Jorge Martin missed a total of 14 race weekends throughout the entirety of the 2025 campaign, but returned for the season-closer in Valencia in order to get one last chance of securing some more experience in racing conditions with the Italian constructor.
Marc Marquez knows exactly how the reigning world champion feels, with the 32-year-old’s 2020 campaign sharing some stark similarities to Martin’s term this season.

Jorge Martin reveals his reaction to watching Marc Marquez win the 2025 MotoGP title
Marquez’s 2025 title has been hailed as one of the best championship feats in the history of the premier class because of what the Spaniard had to endure on his rise back to the top of the pecking order.
He had to undergo countless surgeries and injury setbacks during the final years of his partnership with Honda, and returned to his former ways upon his arrival at the factory Ducati team.
Ahead of him clinching the title at Motegi in September, a documentary that detailed his incredible rise from the depths that he was in during his battles with injury was released.
In a recent interview with Sport, Martin was asked how he felt about seeing his compatriot win the championship, referencing the documentary in his answer.
He said, “It is beautiful, I am happy for him because he has been fighting for it for a long time. Watching the video of the recovery from the injury, I said to my girlfriend, “Who does it remind you of?”.
“Because in the end, it is more of the same, falling, suffering, pain, getting up again… the best athletes in history have never given up, and that is why in the end they go so far, so I hope I can have those values.”

Jorge Martin also detailed how Marc Marquez’s return to form in 2025 has inspired him
After suffering a broken collarbone in the round after his title feat in Japan, Marquez was subsequently ruled out of a number of races.
Eyeing a return at the final round of the season, the Spaniard eventually conceded and decided to turn his attention to being fully fit for the new season.
MotoGP fans felt like Martin should have done the same thing, but having missed the majority of the season already, the 27-year-old was keen to get back on two wheels.
Martin was also asked whether Marquez’s rise back to the top of the grid after suffering such a hardship has inspired him, to which he answered, “Yes, it is clear, it is important to know that neither the good moments are so good, nor the bad ones so bad.
“You have to know how to be a bit more neutral in that sense, and it is clear that Marquez is an example. Obviously, I do not want to compare myself, not even remotely, with Marc, but I would say that now it is my turn to be able to rise again.
“I am not telling you that I will win because that is impossible to assure, but yes, to be able to compete at my 100% and that is what I want to achieve.”
