Marc Marquez reveals when he plans to be ‘back on a bike’ and reacts to missing Valencia MotoGP test

Marc Marquez will be sidelined for the rest of 2025 as he recovers from his shoulder injury sustained back in Indonesia.

Wrapping up the 2025 MotoGP title the week before at Motegi, Marquez crashed with Marco Bezzecchi at Mandalika. The Ducati rider fractured his collarbone while rolling in the gravel trap and required surgery.

Marquez bent a screw in his arm that was put in place after his injury in 2020. Thankfully, while his 2025 knock was with the same arm, it did not affect the injury that almost ended his career.

However, following surgery, Marquez has been ruled out of the final four races of the season. He has learned from previous mistakes in his career when it comes to injury – Marquez returned too soon after his 2020 crash, which prolonged his recovery.

Marc Marquez reacts to missing the Valencia test with Ducati

Test rider Michele Pirro replaced the Spaniard at Phillip Island and Sepang, running towards the back of the grid. Ducati had planned to use WSBK rider Nicolo Bulega for those two events, but he turned the opportunity down.

The Italian eventually U-turned his decision, with Ducati confirming Bulega will replace Marquez for the final two races of the season. He finished P15 on his MotoGP debut at Portimao.

Along with missing the last four races, Marquez will also not be at the post-season test in Valencia. Speaking to AS, the Spaniard stressed that Ducati would still have Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia to depend on.

“In the official team, we had all the parts for the 24 and 25, and the best base is a 24 with upgrades from the 25,” he said.

“In the Valencia tests, the engine and aerodynamics are being tested, and Ducati has two riders suited for that. One is Álex Márquez, the runner-up, and the other is Pecco, who I hope will do well in Valencia. I’ll meet him at the Sepang test and adapt to whatever I find.”

Marc Marquez cannot confirm if he will be back for the Sepang test in 2026

With his 2025 season over, Marquez will be looking ahead to 2026. He plans to return in time for pre-season testing in Sepang.

However, he cannot confirm right now whether he will definitely be in Malaysia: “It can’t be 100% confirmed, but I hope to be back on a bike well before the Sepang test, respecting the deadlines, the X-rays, and the CT scan. My recovery is going very well.”

Marquez’s doctor predicts a 16-week recovery for him after surgery. That would take him up to the Sepang test, but Ducati will want to be as cautious as possible with the 32-year-old.

The Borgo Panigale outfit will want Marquez to be at full fitness for next season to defend his MotoGP crown. But his absence in Valencia will certainly have an effect on their development of the GP26.
