Pedro Acosta has achieved some pretty heroic results for KTM in 2025 and continues to work his magic on their bike.

The Spaniard has a chance of finishing in the top three of the MotoGP standings, albeit slim, with two races to go. KTM have stepped up immensely since the summer break, finally giving him a bike that can compete for podiums.

With a chaotic MotoGP rider market set to erupt for 2027 pretty soon, it’s guaranteed that Acosta will be one of the biggest, if not, the biggest player on the scene. Every manufacturer will be chasing his signature for the future.

Acosta wants his manager to get him out of KTM, and being a championship contender is likely to be high on his list of priorities. A new set of regulations makes it a bit of a guessing game, but Acosta will be ahead of his rivals regardless of where he goes, as ride height devices are set to be banned in 2027.

Pol Espargaro says that Pedro Acosta brakes like Valentino Rossi at KTM

Acosta thinks KTM can fight for a title in 2027 after their recent progress, but that doesn’t mean it’s enough to tempt him to stay with them. If he has a better chance of winning elsewhere, he’d be wise to spend his younger years there.

Acosta would trade places with Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia if he had the chance, despite the two-time champion having a torrid time on their GP25 bike currently. It’s as close as he could get to Marc Marquez, and would produce a thrilling battle.

It feels remarkable that all this talk is about someone who is yet to earn their first victory in the championship, but some of his performances in 2025 have been better value than some of the victories his rivals have managed.

KTM colleague Pol Espargaro has told Spanish journalist Mela Chercoles that he has seen Acosta achieve things that he has seen the great Valentino Rossi do on a bike, as well as Ducati supremo Casey Stoner.

“[Pol Espargaro says] That he brakes like Valentino Rossi, that he does things that Rossi can’t do, you know? And that others try to imitate, and they can’t,” said Chercoles. “It used to happen with Stoner back in the day.”

How Pedro Acosta has set himself apart from his MotoGP rivals in 2025

At the start of the campaign, Acosta’s riding was pretty ordinary. He wasn’t challenging for podiums, and at times, he was making mistakes.

Now, KTM must deliver the bike Acosta wants if they want to keep hold of him beyond 2026. It’s not easy to run into talents like his.

And the team will know that. He has been by far the manufacturer’s best rider, and even has shown that teammate Brad Binder might not be as unflappable as thought.

In 2026 (and maybe before the end of November), he’ll be hoping to finally get that first win done and dusted. His skills on track are right up there, and there’s no disputing that he’s a champion in waiting.
