Pedro Acosta has told his manager to get him out of KTM, he has three teams in mind

Pedro Acosta has been considering his future at KTM throughout 2025 as their financial crisis casts doubt over their competitiveness and the MotoGP project as a whole.

Facing insolvency over the winter, KTM’s dire off-track situation had an impact on it, as the RC16 suffered from underdevelopment. Subsequently, Acosta and his fellow riders struggled to adapt and score consistent results, with the Spaniard crashing regularly.

The 21-year-old was visibly frustrated over the situation and attempted to break his contract. Acosta offered KTM £1.3m to join VR46, but Dorna intervened and prevented him from leaving before his deal expires in 2026.

Since the summer break, KTM have made significant steps forward, with the Spaniard grabbing nine podiums, including Sprints. Acosta hopes KTM can fight for the title in 2027, having matured and taken a new approach to the crisis.

However, their financial woes still hang over them, as they do not have the capability to provide their star rider with a machine that can battle with Ducati. Acosta admitted he is fighting for nothing in 2025, and doubts about his future will only worsen as the KTM crisis does.

Pedro Acosta wants out of KTM – Honda, VR46 and Ducati are who he is eyeing

It was recently reported that KTM’s owners Bajaj will cut costs by 50%, which could include their motorsport division. Their 40 factory talents could risk being fired, which immediately puts Acosta’s future at risk.

In a report from MOW, Bajaj are not currently convinced by KTM’s MotoGP project. It ‘generates no direct revenue’ for the company, with motocross and enduro doing better as it suits the models in their range.

With Bajaj looking to sell more motorcycles to keep the company afloat, ‘only winning could concretely translate into direct motorcycle sales sufficient to justify the investment’ in MotoGP. Otherwise, KTM can only continue if they become ‘independent’ and ‘self-finance’.

The Austrian outfit claim they are committed to the premier class until at least 2027, but with half the budget, it is hard to see how they can compete for a title. That is why Acosta has ‘already put his manager Albert Valera to work’ on the MotoGP rider market.

MOW reports that his ‘destination’ will either be Honda or VR46, having been linked with both when he tried to force an early exit from KTM. Ducati are also targeting Acosta ‘first and foremost’ for 2027, giving him three alternatives.

Pit Beirer reaffirms KTM’s commitment to MotoGP amid financial cuts and Pedro Acosta’s future doubts

Speaking via Speedweek, KTM boss Pit Beirer reaffirmed that the manufacturer are here to stay in the premier class. They are already preparing for the new technical regulations in 2027.

“I have received the official order for the new engine for use in the new MotoGP era,” he said. “Nobody would have approved the engine only to then not deliver it. We are in MotoGP to stay there.”

While they are committed to staying in motorsport, Beirer’s claim does not guarantee success, which will be hard to come by with a smaller budget. It gives Acosta more reason to want to leave KTM, as he is desperate to become a world champion.

Honda are keeping tabs on the Spaniard, while Valentino Rossi is keen to bring him on board his team. The factory Ducati team is unlikely for Acosta, as he may not ‘gel’ with Marc Marquez – he would be replacing Francesco Bagnaia.
