Pedro Acosta just dropped his biggest hint yet that he’s lost hope in KTM despite Sepang podium

Pedro Acosta has made his frustrations clear to KTM throughout 2025 as he pushes to fight at the front of MotoGP.

The Spaniard struggled for consistency at the start of the season due to the RC16’s difficult nature. Since the summer break, Acosta and KTM have hit their stride, scoring four podiums in the last nine races.

The 21-year-old has finished second in two of the last three races, coming behind Alex Marquez at the Malaysian Grand Prix. Acosta has displayed stronger pace in the second half of the season, but has not been able to go that extra mile and claim victory.

He is one of four MotoGP riders on the grid yet to win a race in the premier class. Acosta knows what KTM are ‘missing’ for him to win, claiming that he is at his best in his riding – he believes the manufacturer are letting him down.

The Spaniard has been frustrated by KTM’s lack of performance in 2025, with rumours speculating that he tried to leave his contract. Acosta offered KTM £1.3m to break his contract amid interest from Valentino Rossi and VR46.

While a move did not materialise after Dorna intervened, Acosta has made it clear that he wants a bike that can win him a championship. Speaking to GPOne after the Malaysian GP, he stated that he felt like he is ‘fighting for nothing’, despite beating his 2024 points tally with two races to go.

“With fewer podiums I already have more points than 2024. It seems to have become more consistent, after the summer break I would say we didn’t make any big mistakes, we almost always took advantage of opportunities.

“Of course we missed some opportunities, I would say that in any case the season hasn’t been good, at the moment it’s like aimless, I feel like I’m fighting for nothing and that’s not why I’m here in MotoGP.

“But I would say that I’m finding some things that allow me to understand so many things about MotoGP about what it takes to be at the top all the time. Difficult seasons have happened to so many riders, and these difficult times are needed to step up and come back stronger.”

This could be a major hint that Acosta has lost faith in KTM. He wants to win races in MotoGP, but he does not feel like he has the tools to do so with the Austrian outfit.

Pedro Acosta is being targeted by Ducati, but how likely is a move?

The 21-year-old could be set to become the hottest free agent on the MotoGP rider market come 2027. Acosta has no intentions of signing a new KTM contract, and teams are already taking an interest.

Ducati view Acosta as their top target for 2027, as Francesco Bagnaia continues to struggle in 2025. With a departure looking more likely than ever, the Borgo Panigale outfit are weighing up the idea of partnering the Shark with Marc Marquez.

However, Acosta may not ‘gel’ with Marquez, making a move to Ducati unlikely. Ultimately, the Spaniard is looking to dethrone the Ant of Cervera in MotoGP.

With Acosta seriously considering his future at KTM, several manufacturers will hold an interest in the 21-year-old. Ducati are his primary target, which puts pressure on the Austrian outfit to deliver a strong bike.
