Toprak Razgatlioglu is now just one race weekend away from signing off in World Superbikes and finally getting to move to MotoGP.

The Turkish rider needs a handful of points in the season finale to secure a second consecutive championship, and give BMW the best leaving present possible. He has finished each of his last 24 races in the top two, which is an incredible run of form and reliability.

After delivering his best campaign to date, Pramac will be eager to get to work with him and familiarise the 28-year-old with his new surroundings and machinery. MotoGP is a very different form of motorcycle racing, as Razgatlioglu will be aware from the tests he has completed before.

Razgatlioglu will ’cause trouble’ in MotoGP due to Pirelli replacing Michelin as a tyre supplier for 2027. With the new regulations comes a rubber that he has plenty of experience with, and his rivals won’t. Razgatlioglu won’t have his crew chief, next year, but he has poached Enea Bastianini’s.

Toprak Razgatlioglu told he needs to focus on ‘after the summer break’ in 2026

Razgatlioglu’s braking won’t work in MotoGP, he has been warned, but his skills and talents are evident on a motorcycle. Being a fast rider is equally as much about adaptability as it is about being able to extract speed from any one bike.

He will have one of the most experienced riders on the grid alongside him as his teammate, which will be very helpful. Jack Miller will be tasked with leading debriefs early on in the season while his rookie colleague gets up to speed.

Peter Bom believes that it will take Razgatlioglu until after the summer break to really start flexing his pace. There are so many areas that he’s going to have to adjust to, but he will still have his strengths.

“Yeah, Toprak should be focusing the most on the first 3-4 races after the summer break, because that’s when you should expect him to have learned enough to be pretty close or not too far away from his people on the same bike,” he said. “That’s when you start to talk and make plans for next year.

“So if you take your time in the first half, don’t crash your brain out, but you really take the time to learn the bike deeply, how to ride the motorbikes that are actually almost not motorbikes anymore because he comes from a proper motorbike.”

How long has Toprak Razgatlioglu been waiting to join MotoGP?

Looking back at the last few years, a Razgatlioglu switch had been in the works for quite a while before it was confirmed over the summer.

He tested for Yamaha for the first time back in June 2022, but the day’s running was affected by some rain, which was a frustrating result.

He got another chance in April 2023, which he took, leaving a positive impression, but not quite enough to fight for a MotoGP seat at the time.

After adding two more championships to his name and with a rule change arriving soon, now feels like the right time to give this move a go. He has little to lose.
