Danilo Petrucci tells Toprak Razgatlioglu what ‘won’t work’ for him in MotoGP ahead of 2026 Pramac debut

The introduction of Toprak Razgatlioglu to the MotoGP grid is one of the most exciting things to look forward to for the 2026 season of Grand Prix motorcycle racing.

The 2021 and 2024 World Superbike champion is set to join Pramac Racing for his maiden campaign in MotoGP next season.

The move marks a reunion with Yamaha, with whom he won his first WSBK title in 2021. The Turkish rider made the switch to BMW for the 2024 season, becoming the first rider for the German constructor to win a championship in the category.

Razgatlioglu has been tipped to hit the ground running in MotoGP next season, with ‘many’ current MotoGP riders agreeing that he will be winning races in his debut year, albeit after a difficult first few races.

Toprak Razgatlioglu’s braking style ‘won’t work’ on the Yamaha MotoGP bikes according to Danilo Petrucci

Speaking to Speedweek, Danilo Petrucci highlighted the period that Razgatlioglu will need when he joins the premier class of Grand Prix motorcycle racing next season to ‘adapt’ to the unique riding style that MotoGP bikes require.

Neil Hodgson described Razgatlioglu’s braking style as ‘unique’, and is something that Petrucci noted will need to change when the Turkish rider is sat atop a MotoGP bike, saying, “That won’t work on a MotoGP bike; he’ll have to adapt his manoeuvres a bit.

“But he has a lot of feel in his fingers and incredible confidence in the front wheel. The problem is that on a MotoGP bike, you rarely feel the front wheel. Only sometimes can you brake in a lean position, as is possible with Pirelli tires.

“But he’ll learn; he has so much talent and such great ability. By 2027, he’ll be back on Pirelli tires, which might give him an advantage.”

Toprak Razgatlioglu is already looking forward to battling against Marc Marquez in MotoGP next season

The 28-year-old is currently at the top of the Superbike World Championship after previously winning it with Yamaha in 2021 and BMW in 2024.

He has been in dazzling form as of late, winning every race in the last three rounds and standing on the podium, at the very least, in every race for the last five rounds.

Razgatlioglu is looking forward to ‘confronting’ Marc Marquez on track next season, telling the current MotoGP championship leader that it will be an honour to race alongside him next season.

If Razgatlioglu is able to get off to a competitive start with Yamaha at the start of next season, it will be interesting to see how long the formalities between the two champions, in their respective categories, last before things start to get intense.
