After securing his seventh MotoGP title and adding to an illustrious career in the premier class, Alex Marquez has given his verdict on the future of his world-beating brother, Marc Marquez.
The factory Ducati rider joined his nemesis Valentino Rossi on nine Grand Prix world championships after securing the title at the Japanese Grand Prix last month, and could go on to surpass him next season if the Italian constructor is able to give him a bike that is as dominant as the GP25.
Marquez made the switch from Honda to Ducati for the 2024 season, racing alongside his brother for the satellite outfit, Gresini Racing.
The move marked a return in form for the 32-year-old, who struggled with a swathe of injuries in the preceding years.
The move to Gresini came at a time when Marquez needed to know if he was still competitive among the younger generation that had emerged during his struggles at Honda.
The Spaniard noted that he would have retired after his spell at Gresini if it turned out that he wasn’t able to compete on track anymore.

Now that he has found that he can still compete with the best, by being the very best, it’s unlikely that Marquez will call it quits while he is seated at the currently best team in the sport.
In a MotoGP documentary titled Marc, more than a number, the #93’s darkest days were detailed as they highlighted the struggles that he had to go through before returning to the top of the premier class pedestal with the factory Ducati team.
Alex Marquez touched upon his older brother’s future in the sport in a testimonial to the character of Marc’s competitive attitude, saying via DAZN, “Marc has no limits. He can win 22 races in a row in a season.
“He can retire whenever he wants. He will be fast until the last day he remains here.”
An old Honda ally believes Marquez will retire once a worthy challenger to his throne steps up to the plate. As of yet, there doesn’t appear to be someone on the grid who can take the fight to the record breaker anytime soon.
Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz believes Marquez is the closest thing to Ayrton Senna in the two-wheeled category of racing.
The Spaniard went on to hail his compatriot, stating that he will be remembered for years to come.

Alex Marquez could take the fight to Marc Marquez in the 2026 MotoGP season
With both Marquez brothers sitting in one-two formation in the current riders’ standings, a closer championship battle between the two siblings may be on offer in 2026 after it was announced that Alex Marquez would receive a factory Ducati bike next year.
The move came after Rossi declined his VR46 Racing outfit from having a second bike in a cost-cutting measure. The Italian team received one GP25 for the current campaign, which is being ridden by Fabio Di Giannantonio.
The dominant GP25 has won 28 of the 36 races across the Grand Prix and Sprint formats this season in a show of dominance that was capitalised on by the aggressive riding of the #93.
However, receiving a GP26 may also be a curse in disguise for Alex.
Bagnaia and Di Giannantonio have struggled to replicate the results of the championship leader, and with reports suggesting that the GP26 will barely be a successor to the GP25, the Gresini man may find himself in a similar boat.
