Marc Marquez and Ducati have had it relatively easy throughout the 2025 MotoGP campaign, but that could be coming to an end if one five-win MotoGP team unleashes the full potential of their line-up in 2026.
Despite Marquez winning 78% of all races so far in the current term, the dominant GP25 has looked vulnerable in certain areas.
Alex Marquez toppled his brother in Barcelona atop the older spec GP24, and the struggles of Francesco Bagnaia throughout 2025 point towards it not being the easiest bike to take the chequered flag on.
| Position | Constructor | Points |
| 1 | Ducati | 575 |
| 2 | Aprilia | 271 |
| 3 | KTM | 248 |
| 4 | Honda | 198 |
| 5 | Yamaha | 168 |
Bagnaia’s woes may get even worse in the upcoming season due to the fact that the GP26 is expected to have minimal changes when compared to its predecessor.
The two-time MotoGP champion has failed to finish within the top three in a Grand Prix for five consecutive rounds now.
Ducati have won every constructors’ championship since 2020 in a period of unprecedented dominance for the Italian constructor. However, all of these factors point towards the crowning of a new team in 2026.

Aprilia will dethrone Ducati at the top of MotoGP’s pecking order in 2026
The determination of Marco Bezzecchi in recent MotoGP rounds has been the only thing keeping Marquez’s regular routs on a Sunday afternoon from being boring.
The Italian rider has found his form in recent months, standing atop the podium five times in the last seven race weekends.
Bezzecchi has earned himself a spot in Jorge Lorenzo’s top five riders through his unwillingness to let the Ducati rider run away from the rest of the pack in recent rounds, showing he is more than capable of taking the fight to Marquez in the right conditions.

Aprilia have been praised for improving their ‘weak areas’ through different upgrades in 2025, and has benefited from the struggles of Bagnaia in the current campaign.
The Aprilia rider is now just eight points away from leapfrogging his compatriot in the championship standings, standing as one of two riders to split all six Ducati bikes within the top eight.
Marquez will struggle to experience the same kind of superiority in the upcoming season as Aprilia take more strides to close the gap between themselves and Ducati.

Massimo Rivola is yet to unleash the full potential of his star ‘striker’ in Jorge Martin at Aprilia
Aprilia have been able to take the fight to Marquez without utilising the ace up their sleeve in Jorge Martin.
The reigning world champion hasn’t been able to put up a defence of his title in 2025, due to the fact that he has been sidelined for the majority of the year through injury.
Martin has been training relentlessly since he was given the OK to return to the MotoGP grid and will be able to start from a fresh slate at full fitness at the beginning of the 2026 season.

Upon his return to the premier class in July, Martin has been tipped as one of the riders to watch in the remaining races of the season.
He’s still playing catch-up to the rest of the grid at this current moment, but the Spaniard will have his eyes firmly set on challenging for a title in 2026, given Bezzecchi’s impressive form atop an Aprilia in recent races.
Only one thing is for certain: Ducati won’t be enjoying the same kind of chokehold they have had on the MotoGP grid once the bikes hit the race track in 2026.
