Neil Hodgson and Sylvain Guintoli believe Marc Marquez can’t match Toprak Razgatlioglu in one area of the Misano circuit during the pre-qualifying practice session at the San Marino Grand Prix.
The Turkish rider is set to partner Jack Miller at Pramac Yamaha for his debut season in MotoGP, after cementing himself as one of the best riders in World SuperBikes over the last few years.
Razgatlioglu has been tipped to ’cause problems’ in MotoGP once he gets some experience on the prototype bikes under his belt.
The premier class is switching to Pirelli rubber for the 2027 season, the same tyre supplier that WSBK have used for over two decades.
Neil Hodgson makes ‘it’s all right, but it’s not Toprak’ comment about Marc Marquez at Misano
Speaking during TNT Sports’ coverage of the pre-qualifying practice session at Misano, Neil Hodgson and Sylvain Guintoli discussed the way Marquez went through the high-speed turn 11, with Hodgson noting that Razgatlioglu looked a lot better through the corner during World SuperBikes.
“Look at that, at turn 11,” Guintoli commented (13:35 12/09), as Marquez flew through the corner on his Ducati GP25.
“It’s all right, but it’s not Toprak, is it?” Hodgson dismissed, before explaining, “The reason being is Toprak, with the way the electronics are set on a SuperBike, Toprak was on the lockstop through there, wasn’t he?”

Guintoli recalled the Turkish rider’s exploits before saying, “Yeah, he was drifting all the way. Well, different bikes and different tyres.”
Hodgson responded with, “With the GP boys, we’ve not seen them drift. Bearing in mind a MotoGP bike has got more horsepower, so essentially you should be able to just light it up, but they’re not doing that.”
Razgatlioglu has been warned about changing his riding style for MotoGP, with the man who is replacing him at BMW in WSBK, Danilo Petrucci, telling the Turkish rider that it won’t work on the prototype machinery.

Who set the fastest time of the pre-qualifying practice session at the San Marino Grand Prix?
Marquez led the timing sheets in Friday afternoon’s practice session at the San Marino Grand Prix, ahead of Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi and VR46’s Franco Morbidelli. Francesco Bagnaia had a more positive start to the race weekend, setting the fourth fastest time of the session.
The Italian rider must have taken his teammate’s advice on board, with a Ducati behind-the-scenes video showing Marquez giving advice to Bagnaia amid his struggles in the current campaign.
| Position | Rider | Team | Time/Gap |
| 1 | Marc Marquez | Ducati Lenovo | 1:30.480 |
| 2 | Marco Bezzecchi | Aprilia Racing | +0.147 |
| 3 | Franco Morbidelli | VR46 Racing | +0.193 |
| 4 | Francesco Bagnaia | Ducati Lenovo | +0.230 |
| 5 | Alex Marquez | Gresini Racing | +0.272 |
| 6 | Joan Mir | Honda HRC | +0.339 |
| 7 | Luca Marini | Honda HRC | +0.368 |
| 8 | Jorge Martin | Aprilia Racing | +0.377 |
| 9 | Pedro Acosta | KTM Factory Racing | +0.409 |
| 10 | Fabio Di Giannantonio | VR46 Racing | +0.435 |
Bagnaia has found an unlikely ally in Marquez during the Spaniard’s debut season with the factory Ducati team. The line-up was tipped to be title rivals, but Bagnaia’s poor form has turned Marquez into a genuine teammate for the two-time world champion.
Alex Marquez, Joan Mir, and Luca Marini also made it through to Q2 from the session, with Jorge Martin receiving a wholesome welcome from his Aprilia garage upon returning to the pits after he also set a time fast enough to skip Q1 on Saturday morning.
Pedro Acosta and Fabio Di Giannantonio rounded out the top 10 and will also battle it out for pole position at Misano.
