Luigi Dall’Igna just can’t get through to Francesco Bagnaia and Ducati briefing video shows it

Luigi Dall’Igna thinks he knows the solution to Francesco Bagnaia’s crisis of ‘confidence’ at Ducati. But the two-time MotoGP champion disagrees.

There appears to be a fundamental disconnect between Bagnaia and the Ducati team at the moment. They have put forward different explanations for his miserable 2025 season.

Dall’Igna believes that Ducati’s bike has barely changed from last year, when Bagnaia won 11 Grands Prix and missed out on the world title by just 10 points. Therefore, the ultimate failure lies with the rider.

On the other hand, Bagnaia thinks the DNA of the Ducati has changed this year. And he’s become impatient with the team’s engineers as he pursues a solution that restores his feeling.

Francesco Bagnaia tells Luigi Dall’Igna ‘I can’t do it’ in Ducati meeting

Ducati’s latest ‘Inside’ video, documenting the Catalan GP weekend, features a meeting between Bagnaia, Dall’Igna and his Ducati engineers. The general manager thinks even a small step forward could transform his rider’s ‘confidence’.

But Bagnaia refused to buy into that theory. Instead, he says he can’t make that step precisely because he lacks confidence on the bike.

Dall’Igna thinks this will come with long runs in practice sessions and tests. And he also believes misfortune has played a part in Bagnaia’s alarming drop-off.

The transcript of their exchange follows below.

Dall’Igna: “If you look at the numbers… if you look at the times, the positions, we’re far away. It’s true.

Bagnaia: “I lost almost 15 seconds.”

Dall’Igna: “But confidence, once you make a step forward, then it comes!”

Bagnaia: “The problem is I can’t do it. I don’t have confidence on the bike.”

Dall’Igna: “In my opinion, even doing long runs, in the sessions, it helps.”

Dall’Igna later adds: “It’s a shame, almost always, when someone starts to have problems, then bad luck is there. Fate. This always happens in the worst moments of life. You have to be stronger than bad luck.”

Marc Marquez’s advice to Pecco Bagnaia is far easier said than done

It’s clear from the footage that Dall’Igna is struggling to get through to Bagnaia. The 30-time premier-class winner seems defeated and may need the season to end at this point.

Marc Marquez believes Bagnaia needs to ‘reset’ and thinks this weekend’s San Marino Grand Prix offers a good opportunity to do so. But that is far easier said than done.

Bagnaia tried to change his approach during the summer break, but his results have actually gotten worse since the season resumed. Perhaps he needs a mechanical fix instead.

Ducati have several exciting options for 2027, with Bagnaia out of contract next year. But the aforementioned meeting shows that Dall’Igna is still committed to making things work with the #63 if indeed that’s possible.
