MotoGP is headed to Italy this weekend for the San Marino and Rimini Riviera Grand Prix at the Misano World Circuit.

Heading into this weekend’s San Marino Grand Prix, Marc Marquez will be focusing on another win that could help extend the gap in his championship run. Marquez has had a dominant 2025 season and is just a small number of points away from taking the title in the coming weeks.

The track has hosted the grand prix since 2007, with one rider demonstrating his dominance at the track over the last 10 years.

With seven Italian riders, many consider the San Marino Grand Prix their second home race of the season, including Honda HRC Castrol rider Luca Marini, who said: “Racing in Misano is always a really special feeling and arriving there in good form makes it even better.

“Not just because it’s my home race, but I also like the circuit itself a lot and have been strong in the past there, so our objective is to continue like we have the past few weekends.”

Marc Marquez holds impressive Misano World Circuit record

Marc Marquez holds the record for the most wins at the Misano World Circuit, with four victories in the last decade. The Spaniard is also the most successful rider at the circuit across all categories, taking an impressive seven wins since his first 125cc win in 2010.

His maiden San Marino Grand Prix victory came during the 2015 season after three previous victories that year. Marquez started the race from P2 behind Jorge Lorenzo in dry conditions; however, a rain shower forced most of the riders to switch to bikes with wet tyres.

Once the shower had passed, Marquez perfected his switch back to tyres, pitting ahead of Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi, giving him the lead of the race.

The pair opted to stay out for longer on their wet tyres before changing back to the dry tyres, with Rossi dropping to fifth and Lorenzo crashing out on Lap 20.

Only five drivers have achieved multiple race wins at the San Marino Grand Prix

Marquez will be hoping to take a back-to-back win at the 2025 San Marino Grand Prix after claiming the victory the previous year. Another win at the Misano World Circuit will extend his lead for most wins at the circuit to five, ahead of multiple-time world champions Lorenzo and Rossi.

Five riders have achieved multiple race wins at the San Marino Grand Prix, with Lorenzo and Rossi both tied with three wins each. With both riders now retired, Marquez looks comfortable to retain the record for some time.

Francesco Bagnaia is the only other rider with multiple race wins at the Misano World Circuit, who could move to catch Marquez with the most wins. Bagnaia has taken one win this season; however, with Marquez’s dominant performance, it seems more likely that the current leader will take his fifth win at the track.
