Jack Miller shares how Jorge Martin nearly turned his Catalan Grand Prix into a ‘terrible’ event

Jack Miller scored points for the first time in three MotoGP races at the Catalan Grand Prix, despite some early struggles.

The 30-year-old had his MotoGP seat for 2026 confirmed by Pramac this week, after having to wait months for them to decide who they wanted.

Miller will partner with rookie Toprak Razgatlioglu, who makes the move from the World Superbike Championship.

On a very rare occasion, the Aussie was beaten by teammate Miguel Oliveira at the Catalan Grand Prix, who has no seat for 2026 after Pramac’s announcement.

Miller is ‘hearing’ good things about Yamaha’s V4 engine as they look to turn around their poor form of the last few seasons.

His experience will be vital in helping to develop their bike next year, but Miller is facing his last chance in MotoGP and will be under pressure to perform on the track, as well as off it.

Jack Miller nearly had a ‘terrible’ day after contact with Jorge Martin at the Catalan Grand Prix

Miller was left ‘devastated’ after Balaton Park, where he crashed twice, but bounced back in solid fashion in Spain.

He has seven more races before the year can be written off, and focus can turn to trying to compete for podiums again next season.

Unbeknownst to fans, Miller actually collided with reigning champion Jorge Martin on lap one in Catalunya, which set him back a bit.

“All in all, it was not a terrible day,” he said, according to FOX Sports Australia. “Unfortunately, I got hit at Turn 4 and took a trip through the gravel, and then just had to work my way up from dead last.

“I was hard on the inside of [Aprilia’s Jorge] Martin, and when I copped a hit, I was tangled with the back-end of Martin’s bike, and it was exit stage-left into the gravel, and that was it.

“The pace was decent, and the bike was working alright. I feel like we made a step with the bike this weekend, just in general with our base setting. Fine-tuning it more than big changes, so I’m happy with the way the bike was performing and I think we have a good strategy for the next couple of Grands Prix.”

Why Pramac might have decided to sign Jack Miller for 2026

Many of the alternatives to Miller were Moto2 riders, which would have meant fielding two rookie riders on a new bike.

With development and progression a key in 2026, having someone with a wealth of knowledge was going to be more valuable to them than having a rider who might not have much experience and some upside.

With Alex Rins under pressure to find some form soon, there’s a chance that Miller could even be considered for a promotion in 2027.

He just needs to beat Razgatlioglu most weeks and show Yamaha that he can be a lead rider at most events.
