Jack Miller can finally move on from the MotoGP contract questions. Pramac announced on Thursday ahead of the Catalan Grand Prix that he’d signed a new contract.
Miller’s deal was due to expire at the end of the season, but he has seen off considerable competition to partner Toprak Razgatlioglu at the Yamaha satellite squad. Teammate Miguel Oliveira will lose his seat after failing to meet a performance clause in his contract.
While LCR Honda still have a seat available, there was no prospect of Miller returning to the team who gave him his MotoGP debut in 2015. Had he lost his seat, he likely would have had to move to World Superbikes.
Ducati’s Luigi Dall’Igna was showing an interest in Miller for one of his WSBK vacancies after fielding him in MotoGP in 2021 and 2022.
Honda also targeted Miller, while a seat swap with Razgatlioglu wasn’t out of the question following his BMW exit.
Jack Miller admits he could have made more money if he left Pramac
During his media briefing on Thursday, which came after the contract announcement, Miller was asked if he’d foregone any money to renew his Pramac deal. His response, as per Speedweek, was unequivocal: ‘Yes’.
Pressed on whether he prioritised staying in MotoGP over his salary, he gave the exact same answer. The report states that he would have received a higher fixed wage in the WSBK paddock.
However, Miller could be in line for higher ‘bonuses and sponsorship income’ in Grand Prix racing. New owners Liberty Media may try and market him as one of the faces of the sport given that he’s one of only two riders who speak English as a first language.
Miller’s 2025 contract was worth £2.5m, but it’s unclear whether he’s retained those terms. For reference, this is the same as Honda’s Joan Mir, the 2020 world champion.
The trump card Jack Miller had in negotiations with Yamaha bosses
On the face of it, Miller’s bargaining position was somewhat weak. He didn’t have any other MotoGP offers on the table.
However, Diogo Moreira turned down Yamaha in favour of Honda. As the second-highest-scoring M1 rider in 2025, the Australian appeared the best alternative.
Miller also had the backing of Yamaha’s Japanese management, who pushed back on the idea of signing Moto2 star Manuel Gonzalez. He knows how valuable he can be to the team’s development as they prepare to introduce the V4.
Miller already has a good relationship with Razgatlioglu, his future teammate. They could be one of the most captivating duos on the grid next year.
