Marc Marquez has taken the spotlight away from Francesco Bagnaia since his addition to the factory Ducati team ahead of the current campaign, despite the two world championships the Italian rider brought to the Italian constructor.
Marquez’s dominance has seen a regression in results from his Ducati teammate, which has left many wondering about Bagnaia’s future at the Borgo Panigale team.
The Spaniard has flourished within the ranks of the factory team. Marquez’s current tally of 418 points has wowed his rivals as he continues to stack up Grand Prix wins and set his sights on a number of MotoGP single-season records.
The price that has been paid for his extraordinary performances has been at the expense of his teammate. Bagnaia is in danger of losing his factory Ducati ride due to his inability to replicate what Marquez has done on the same machinery.

Enea Bastianini notes how Marc Marquez ‘takes away space’ from his teammates in MotoGP
After failing to put up a title challenge in 2024 with the factory Ducati outfit, Enea Bastianini was dropped from the team in favour of Marquez, who finished six points ahead of him from within the Italian constructor’s satellite team, Gresini Racing.
Speaking to GPOne ahead of MotoGP’s return to the Hungarian Grand Prix, Bastianini touched upon the nature of Marquez as a teammate, which has had an effect on Francesco Bagnaia’s ability to perform in the same way as his previous title-fighting seasons.

“When a teammate like Marc arrives, he’s intrusive in the sense that he takes away space,” Bastianini said. “I think Pecco knew this and could have expected it. I also think that, at the moment, neither he nor his package are 100% at their best.
“These aren’t the results a rider like him should achieve, but it’s obvious that he’s not disastrous. He’s third in the standings! I’d like to be there too.”
Bastianini isn’t the only rider who has their doubts over teaming with the dominant Spaniard. MotoGP rookie Fermin Aldegeur also shared his hesitation about partnering with Marquez, stating that it ‘must be hell’ having to chase his benchmarks.

Enea Bastianini has now changed his mind on Ducati’s choice to replace him with Marc Marquez
When Ducati announced its completion of signing Marquez during the middle of the 2024 season, many saw it as a surprise, considering eventual champion Jorge Martin was the leading Ducati rider across the whole grid.
However, Bastianini now believes Ducati’s decision to sign Marquez was correct following his sheer dominance in the current campaign.
| Position | Rider | Points |
| 7 | Pedro Acosta | 144 |
| 11 | Brad Binder | 82 |
| 13 | Maverick Vinales | 69 |
| 14 | Enea Bastianini | 63 |
Bastianini has since had a less-than-desirable 2025 season with his new Tech3 team. The Italian is currently sitting 14th in the riders’ standings as the lowest-placing KTM rider on the grid.
Despite this, Bastianini is one of only two riders to snatch a podium this season, with his third place at the Czech Republic Sprint being his only highlight of the year.
