Pedro Acosta’s future in MotoGP has been a hot topic in the 2025 season amid his frustrations at KTM.

The 21-year-old has struggled with the RC16 and its tricky nature this season, with constant crashes hampering him. KTM’s financial crisis did not help matters over the winter, as their troubles translated to a lack of performance on the track.

Acosta has demanded upgrades from KTM throughout the season, and the manufacturer are starting to deliver. The Spaniard has scored podiums in the last two Sprint races and finished third at Brno.

But his anger towards KTM at the start of the season prompted speculation that he is looking to leave the manufacturer. Amid the fresh concerns coming out of the team, he must now consider jumping ship.

Pedro Acosta must consider joining Honda as Red Bull prepare to leave KTM

Acosta has been heavily linked with VR46 in 2025, with Valentino Rossi being a keen admirer. While the 21-year-old would favour a move to Ducati, Uccio Salucci reckons Acosta would reject VR46 as he believes the rider would favour a factory move.

Honda reportedly offered Acosta £13m-a-year to join the team as they plotted huge moves in the MotoGP rider market. Manager Albert Valera was said to be pushing to get the Spaniard out of his KTM deal by 2026, but Acosta could not break his contract.

The latest the Spaniard can move teams is 2027, and he may now have a huge reason to leave KTM. According to a report from GPOne, Red Bull are considering ending their sponsorship with the Austrian manufacturer after almost three decades.

Red Bull are said to be unhappy with KTM’s lack of success and how their rivals Monster are achieving greater results with their riders. The report states that ‘the path to the Honda Racing Corporation is clear’ as they plan their next move in MotoGP.

Acosta is backed by Red Bull, who offer up to 15 million euros (roughly £13m) to KTM in sponsorship money. The Spaniard will certainly not be happy with the Austrian manufacturer losing more money, especially with his discontent over their financial crisis during the winter.

Honda hope to return to the front of the grid under the new regulations in 2027 and have more financial backing than any other manufacturer. With Red Bull on board, it makes the Japanese giants an option that Acosta simply must give thought to.

Pedro Acosta could join Jorge Martin at Honda in 2027

The rider market could be set for huge changes come 2027 as the current contract cycle comes to an end. Some teams are already preparing ‘pre-deals’, with Honda being heavily active.

Jorge Martin’s contract dispute with Aprilia grabbed major headlines in the MotoGP paddock while he recovered from injury. The Spaniard was keen to break his contract and leave the Noale outfit through an exit clause, with Honda making their interest in Martin clear.

The defending champion has now committed to Aprilia until 2026 after he was unable to break his contract, but a move in 2027 is entirely possible. Martin is Honda’s top target when his contract expires, and he could end up being teammates with Acosta.

Both riders are managed by Valera and have been linked with the Japanese outfit in 2025. With Martin bound for Honda if he leaves Aprilia, Acosta could join him if Red Bull give him an incentive to do so.
