Pedro Acosta has made one clear demand to KTM after German Grand Prix crash, ‘time is ticking’

Pedro Acosta suffered his second retirement of the 2025 MotoGP season as he crashed out in the early stages of the German Grand Prix.

The KTM star had been on course for a decent result at Sachsenring, having made it to Q2 and finishing ninth in the Sprint the day before. Acosta admitted himself that he could have finished on the podium, but his race was over by lap four.

The Spaniard was running P5 before falling off his RC16 at turn two. Miguel Oliveira and Lorenzo Savadori crashed within seconds of Acosta at different parts of the circuit, in what was the first of many accidents at the German Grand Prix.

KTM teammate Brad Binder was the only rider to finish for the manufacturer at Sachsenring. Tech3’s Maverick Vinales and Enea Bastianini did not take part in the race due to a Q2 crash and appendicitis respectively.

Acosta’s fears about Sachsenring came true as only 10 riders finished the race, having labelled the track ‘too dangerous’ beforehand. With a podium having been in reach, the 21-year-old was again left frustrated with his team.

Acosta has been demanding action from KTM and the factory to bring updates to the RC16. The Spaniard has been frustrated by the bike throughout the season.

Speaking to Motosan after the German GP, he made another clear demand to his team. Acosta wants to see upgrades before the Misano test in September, stating that ‘time is ticking’ for them to arrive.

Asked whether he expects upgrades to come, he said: “Yes, and they have to arrive before the Misano test. If not, we’re paying. I’m already very convinced in one direction, and I think the factory is too.

“Now it’s just a matter of time, but time is ticking. I want them to arrive as soon as possible, because every opportunity that’s lost, never comes back. ”

When asked if he is frustrated by KTM’s situation, Acosta added: “I’m at a point of acceptance. Sometimes you have to go out and say: today’s not possible.

“The problem is that this has been going on for so many days. And of course, the very day you’re fourth and can push, you do it. But we have to accept that we’re not at the level of a manufacturer, especially one that has much more margin.”

Pedro Acosta’s KTM frustrations continue amid VR46 rumours

Acosta will be desperate to see action at KTM as rumours continue to swirl about his future. He made the headlines again at Sachsenring as speculation surrounding a move to VR46 is still rife.

The 21-year-old has been linked with Valentino Rossi’s team in recent months as Acosta searches for a ‘loophole’ in his KTM contract. He has no way out of his deal, which runs until 2026, but he may be receiving guidance from the MotoGP legend.

Pablo Nieto says VR46 are ‘open to everything’ as he refused to rule out a swoop for the KTM rider. Rossi has told Acosta that VR46 could ‘wait’ to sign him, suggesting that they could hold off until 2027, when he will be a free agent.

Vinales has told Acosta to stay at KTM, warning him that satellite Ducati riders may struggle to compete. The Spaniard will not speak about a future away from KTM publicly, but he will want improvements from the team as rumours intensify about his next move.
