Carlo Pernat has ‘learned’ Dorna has an ‘overboard’ plan in motion about Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez’s feud

The 2015 season was a defining moment in the relationship between Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez, after a mentor-like start beginning from the Spaniard’s rise to MotoGP.

Rossi was furious with Marquez after the final race of the season. The nine-time world champion felt like Marquez was purposely trying to aid his compatriot Jorge Lorenzo in trying to win the title, at Rossi‘s expense.

The bad blood in 2015 seemed to have started at the Australian Grand Prix. Rossi was ‘disappointed’ at Marquez for backing him up at the Phillip Island circuit, handing Lorenzo an advantage with just two races to follow.

Tensions boiled over at the following Malaysian Grand Prix. Rossi kicked Marquez off his Honda bike as the riders battled for track position. Rossi was subsequently handed a grid penalty for the title showdown in Valencia, ultimately ending his chances of beating Lorenzo.

Dorna have been contacting riders about making a documentary on the 2015 season

Carlo Pernat is one of the most enigmatic figures in the MotoGP paddock, having had a hand in the development of careers for legendary figures within the sport, such as Rossi and Max Biaggi.

Speaking to MOW, Pernat revealed what he had heard from unnamed riders regarding Dorna’s latest marketing scheme, which involves a documentary about Rossi and Marquez’s spat that originated during the 2015 MotoGP season.

“What I’ve learned is that for a while now,” Pernat started, “when we were still waiting for the EU’s approval for Liberty Media, Dorna contacted some riders to make videos about the 2015 season and the rivalry between Vale and Marc.

“It’s clear that now we’ll see Liberty Media’s influence on these things, which are strictly related to communication and marketing, and they’re American, so it’s equally clear that they’ve thought big. But this time, in my opinion, it’s a bit too big to go overboard.”

Why is Carlo Pernat against a documentary about the feud?

The reason for Pernat’s hesitancy regarding MotoGP making a documentary on the season is due to the fact he thinks the feud has been oversaturated in the media in recent times.

“2015 has already been covered in every way,” Pernat continued. “It wouldn’t make sense to revisit it unless it’s a precursor to something even bigger.

“In any case, the industry has been talking about it for a long time, so there have been some sort of movements, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve already knocked on the doors of those directly involved.”

Marquez recently responded to a question about the feud, stating that he isn’t interested in resolving anything unless Rossi feels the same way. It doesn’t seem like we’ll get a resolution until Marquez bids farewell to the MotoGP grid, at the very least.
