Aprilia have made some incredible MotoGP progress over the last few months and are becoming genuine challengers to Ducati’s dominance.

It coincides with the return of Jorge Martin, who had lost faith in their project before witnessing their revival led by Marco Bezzecchi.

Now, there appears to be an Aprilia bike in contention for podiums at every race. With two competitive riders, they are going to be a serious force.

Being MotoGP title contenders in 2026 is a serious possibility if they can develop their bike well over the winter, and having the reigning champion in their team will help with that.

Despite being one race into his comeback, Martin still can’t emulate Bezzecchi and is aware that he has things to work on after the summer break.

His teammate’s work has been impressive, though, helping to keep the team afloat with his results. Martin is set to benefit from ‘unprecedented’ Aprilia upgrades that have been led by his Italian rival. They’re in a strong position.

Two ‘important’ factors caught Martin by surprise, and he expected to face more Michelin tyre wear during his return. It’s a credit to the upgrades on his bike.

Although finishing seventh at the Czech Grand Prix wasn’t anything spectacular to a normal rider, it was by the standards of one returning from such an absence.

Just laps into his return, Martin ignored a stern Aprilia warning about not pushing too hard. As a competitor, he didn’t want to listen.

Peter Bom has now revealed that the team have cured an issue they have faced ‘for years’ that will benefit Martin in any battle against the Ducati riders in the future.

“Look at the starts for example,” he said. “Aprilia usually had s— starts for years. And now? In the season. They are rockets off the line. Perfect. He’s in a good place, he’s really, really in a good place.”

Why the second half of the 2025 MotoGP season should be kind to Jorge Martin

Martin became the MotoGP champion last year, despite only taking three victories compared to Francesco Bagnaia’s 11.

He finished second in 10 of the last 15 races, and consistency was very much his key to success. He was pretty much always on the podium.

During the second half of the campaign, he finished off the podium once. It’s a big reason why the rest of 2025 could be kind to him.

With Aprilia’s evolving bike and his confidence gradually returning, Martin should be able to compete for victories at some tracks. It’s a tantalising prospect for fans.
