Ducati have already found their next Fermin Aldeguer with offer made to an ‘aggressive’ Moto2 rider

Ducati took a punt on giving Fermin Aldeguer a multi-year factory contract, but they have already seen the Spaniard score a podium finish in his rookie season at Gresini.

The Bologna Bullets saw the potential that Aldeguer had to offer in Moto2 after winning the final four races of 2023. Even a P16 finish in the 2024 Moto2 season opener in Qatar did not stop Ducati from signing Aldeguer to debut in MotoGP in 2025 on a contract through 2026.

Aldeguer is one of the four riders on the 2025 MotoGP grid with a works Ducati contract. He is, however, the only works rider not using the Desmosedici GP25 as the Spaniard races with last year’s GP24 at Gresini. Ducati planned to place Aldeguer at Pramac before the two split.

A lot of people claimed Aldeguer was overrated ahead of his MotoGP debut for Gresini, who have since seen the Murcian score 97 points to sit 10th in the riders’ standings. Aldeguer got his maiden MotoGP podium at Le Mans, as well, after coming third in the French Grand Prix.

Ducati have made Yamaha target Diogo Moreira an offer to move up to MotoGP in 2027

Having a rising star like Aldeguer on their books might not be enough for the Borgo Panigale crew, though. MOW reports that Ducati have now made Moto2 gem Diogo Moreira an offer as the Bologna Bullets bid to beat out rival interest from Yamaha and Honda in the Brazilian.

Ducati and Yamaha have both sent multi-year contract offers to Moreira that would see him stay in Moto2 with Italtrans Racing Team for another season before joining MotoGP in 2027. The outfits both like the 21-year-old ‘a lot’ but do not think he is ready for the premier class.

Honda have offered Moreira a three-year contract to join LCR in 2026 as they look to replace Somkiat Chantra in their satellite team. Ducati would need VR46 to agree to field Moreira in place of Franco Morbidelli for the Sao Paulo native to get a Desmosedici in MotoGP in 2026.

VR46 currently have the only Desmosedici free for the 2026 MotoGP season as Morbidelli is out of contract at the end of this year. But VR46 are currently in talks with Morbidelli about a new contract for 2026 with the 30-year-old not a factory Ducati-contract rider this season.

Diogo Moreira has caught the eye in Moto2, but he still has a lot to learn

Moreira has caught the eye, and often for the right reasons, with his recent performances in the intermediate class. Michael Laverty praised the ‘very impressive’ Moreira for his charge through the order during the Moto2 German Grand Prix for his ‘aggressive’ overtaking style.

But Moreira also showed he still has a lot to learn at the Sachsenring this July. He drew a pit lane start for the Moto2 Czech Grand Prix for re-joining the track in an unsafe manner when Moreira slowly joined ahead of David Alonso right after crashing into Jake Dixon in Germany.

Dixon branded Moreira ‘desperate’ on TNT Sports 2 after the Moto2 German GP, as well, as the Brazilian hit the rear of the Briton’s bike during their fight for P3. It took the shine off an exceptional charge as Moreira started in P25 after struggling for speed in the wet qualifying.
