Marc Marquez has raced alongside some of the most talented riders in the history of MotoGP, but there is one in particular that he wishes he had the opportunity to share the track with.
The six-time MotoGP champion is on course for a seventh title in 2025, provided nothing goes horribly wrong between now and the conclusion of the season in Valencia.
The feat would put Marquez on par with his long-time nemesis Valentino Rossi.
In a recent interview with DAZN, Marquez also stated the rider from whom he felt he ‘learned the most’ was his first teammate in MotoGP, Dani Pedrosa.

Marc Marquez wishes he had the opportunity of ‘trying to follow’ former MotoGP champion Casey Stoner
However, the one rider whom Marquez longed to have a chance at sharing the track with was two-time MotoGP champion Casey Stoner.
Speaking to DAZN, the 32-year-old stated that he would have loved to have the opportunity to just learn from the Australian, even ‘more than beating him’.

“It’s about following him on the track or trying to follow him,” the Spaniard said. “I do like to follow riders, see what they do differently, and you quickly understand the technique they have. It doesn’t mean you can copy it, or that you can match it.”
“You see what they do and, according to the data I saw, because it was from a previous year, Casey had a very similar style to mine: riding a lot with the rear wheel, braking… I brake, then I’ll turn.”

Casey Stoner and Marc Marquez’s careers show a stark similarity in riding styles
Stoner’s former teammate Jorge Lorenzo compared Pecco Bagnaia’s task of beating Marc Marquez this season to his own battle against the Australian for the title in 2011. The Spaniard ended up 90 points behind.
The comparisons don’t stop there, with both Stoner and Marquez turning Phillip Island, the site of the Australian Grand Prix since 1997, into their own personal playgrounds. Only three riders have won more than one victory at the track in the premier class of Grand Prix motorcycle racing.
| Rider | MotoGP Phillip Island Victories |
| Casey Stoner | 6 (2007 – 2012) |
| Valentino Rossi | 5 (2002 – 2005, 2014) |
| Marc Marquez | 4 (2015, 2017, 2019, 2024) |
Stoner won his home Grand Prix six times consecutively between 2007 and 2012, with Marquez standing on the top step four times over the course of his currently active career.
With sweeping corners, elevation changes and a focus on momentum, the Phillip Island circuit proved to mesh well with both challengers’ natural riding style, emphasising their ability to carry as much speed as possible into corners.
