Tensions between Aprilia and Jorge Martin are continuing to escalate as new details come out about their dispute over the rider’s contract.

Martin proved tensions were still high between the two parties as he refused to make an appearance at Mugello. The Spaniard made his next move in his bid to leave Aprilia at the following round at Assen.

His manager Albert Valera has said Martin’s exit clause is ‘clear-cut’ as he conducted numerous interviews with the media on the matter at the Dutch Grand Prix. The 2024 MotoGP champion has activated a clause in his deal as he is unsatisfied with the RS-GP25.

However, the Noale outfit are desperately trying everything in their power to keep their star rider from breaking his contract. Aprilia are refusing to acknowledge the exit clause as they claim it is invalid, due to the lack of appearances Martin has made in 2025.

Despite only competing in one race weekend due to serious injuries throughout the year, the 27-year-old has his heart set on leaving Aprilia. Massimo Rivola has hinted he will let Martin leave if he so desires, but there are still numerous issues to iron out.

Aprilia are refusing to sit down and discuss a compensation fee with Jorge Martin

Naturally, with Martin having a two-year contract, it will require a fee to break his deal with Aprilia. It had been reported that Aprilia had entered discussions over a compensation fee with the rider.

However, journalist Oriol Puigdemont is now saying that Aprilia ‘doesn’t want to’ sit down and discuss money with Martin. By doing so, the Noale outfit risk an even bigger fallout with the rider as the matter looks almost certain to end up in court.

Puigdemont said via Tank Slappers: “As far as I know, at the moment, Aprilia doesn’t want to sit down and find a deal, which is [about] money. That’s what I feel and that’s what I think they are trying to make clear.

“But I don’t know if it’s just because they want to put pressure on Martin, or because their only option is going into court.

“But as far as I know, at this stage, finding a point midways is super, super difficult in terms of money.”

Honda might have a cunning plan to resolve Jorge Martin’s dispute with Aprilia

Prolonging the matter will only make things worse for Aprilia and Martin, especially for the latter as 2026 approaches. Honda are waiting in the wings to strike a deal with the Spaniard; he will want to resolve the situation quickly before the opportunity passes.

Honda will not sign Martin while under contract at Aprilia, but have confirmed their interest in the 2024 champion. The Spaniard now wants the Japanese giants to make a U-turn, as Honda could pay Martin’s compensation fee to Aprilia and release him from his contract.

With the two parties seemingly unable to reach a compromise, the situation looks set to head to court, with the world left waiting on the final verdict. If Martin loses his case, Honda could sign Moto2 rider Diogo Moreira, who recently became the first Brazilian winner in the intermediate class.

Jorge Lorenzo says Aprilia must make things ‘comfortable’ for Martin if they want any chance of keeping him beyond 2025. But with the current situation, it seems highly unlikely that the Spaniard will be racing for the team next season.
