Jorge Martin’s Aprilia contract situation does not look like it will be sorted anytime soon as the 2025 MotoGP season drags on.

The reigning champion is plotting a return to action after missing all but one race this campaign due to a multitude of injuries.

Aprilia have suffered at times without his services, and Marco Bezzecchi has recently begun to pick up the slack by winning at Silverstone and earning two podiums at Assen.

But their ceiling is so much higher with Martin on the bike, and they’ve only been able to see a glimpse of what he can do in Qatar, before his horror crash in the race.

Martin’s camp are discussing drastic action and are tempted by compensation talks in a bid to release him from his Aprilia deal early.

After weeks of the saga, MotoGP insiders cite a ‘clear’ reason for Martin’s demands and believe that it’s because he wants more money.

Aprilia have changed their tune on Martin’s contract, and team boss Massimo Rivola has hinted at letting him go if he wants to depart.

Either way it goes, they will still have to travel the world with each other and attempt to score some good results before the end of the season.

Aprilia made a mistake when they announced Martin by doing so while he was still under contract to ride a Ducati bike.

GPOne now reports that Aprilia have made an ‘exorbitant’ demand for a penalty (which could mean a few things) to release Martin from his contract early.

The Spaniard has just been ruled out of returning at the upcoming German Grand Prix, leaving just one more event for a comeback before the summer break.

If he decides against a return at Brno in mid-July, then he will be waiting until the Austrian Grand Prix, after the summer break, to get stuck into some competitive action again.

Honda have already spoken to Jorge Martin about cunning plan to sign him for 2026

The team that has been linked with Martin’s signature more than anyone else is Honda, who have one seat available at the factory team for next year.

With Luca Marini’s deal set to expire at the end of 2025, they have every right to explore the options within the MotoGP rider market.

However, they have admitted that they will refuse to enter any negotiations with a rider until they are free of their contractual obligations to a rival.

This means that Honda have spoken to Martin about a cunning plan that would require them to buy him out of his deal to sign him.

Otherwise, he may be forced to wait to ride for them, while Aprilia refuse to let go of him. There’s a chance that he doesn’t even get to ride next year at all.
