Francesco Bagnaia showed signs of progression at the Dutch Grand Prix and secured an important podium for his confidence.
The Ducati star fought back and overtook Pedro Acosta, producing some excellent pace in the second half of the race, which he has struggled to do for most of the season.
Unfortunately for Bagnaia, once again, it wasn’t enough to beat his teammate, who was able to win the Dutch Grand Prix for the first time since 2018.
The next race in Austria marks the halfway stage in the MotoGP season, but already it seems that the title race is a foregone conclusion. Marc Marquez is in imperious form.
Bagnaia has faced a Ducati technical problem for ‘years’ and has been working to address multiple issues in 2025.
However, Bagnaia was still ‘missing’ one thing at Assen and couldn’t quite seem to hook the last sector together well enough. There’s a lot of room for improvement, and he’s more aware of that than anyone.

Francesco Bagnaia reveals Ducati trick to avoid ‘mistakes’ after the Dutch Grand Prix
Bagnaia may have outsmarted Marquez at Assen after opting for a setup that seemed to give him more pace on the GP25.
However, come Sunday, it still wasn’t enough to help him to just a second victory of the season, despite starting ahead of the Spaniard on the grid.
An early battle saw them go head-to-head for the chance to win, but eventually, Bagnaia was caught by Marco Bezzecchi, who remained ahead until the chequered flag was waved.
It was another error-free weekend for the 28-year-old, who explained to GPOne after the race just how he has avoided big errors in 2025.
“This weekend was the best of the season. I was able to push hard, keep a good pace, the confidence is improving, but it’s hard to change the DNA of a bike.
“So, I’m trying to change my approach and not too much the bike, otherwise it becomes easy to make mistakes. It is easier to get used to the bike you are riding, even if it is not too much for me.”
Davide Tardozzi is ‘sure’ MotoGP rival wants to sign Francesco Bagnaia and he’s thrilled about it
Rumours can circulate the paddock very quickly and especially when a rider begins to struggle or go through a period of difficulty with his team.
Fortunately, Bagnaia is under contract with Ducati until the end of 2026 at least, but that hasn’t prevented him from being linked with some of his rivals.
Davide Tardozzi is ‘sure’ Yamaha want to sign Bagnaia, which would see him partner the special Fabio Quartararo.
The factory team’s second rider, Alex Rins, has endured a bit of a miserable campaign on the M1 bike, and although he’s under contract until the end of 2026 as well, his performance (or lack of) could bring that into question.
