Fabio Quartararo proved exactly why he is one of the best riders in MotoGP after he suffered injury at the Grand Prix of Italy.

During Friday’s practice, Quartararo came off his Yamaha YZR-M1 at turn four. He slid across the tarmac and onto the gravel, but his left arm got caught under his body as he fell off the bike.

Coming to a stop in the gravel, Quartararo had dislocated his shoulder in the crash, with many thinking it would spell the end of his session. However, doctors were able to pop it back into place as the Frenchman was seen shouting at the stewards to allow him back on his bike.

The Yamaha rider returned to the garage before he went back out for another run. Incredibly, despite not having visited the medical centre, Quartararo went faster as he finished the session in fifth, three tenths off pacesetter Maverick Vinales.

Alex Rins lauds ‘unbelievable’ Fabio Quartararo after brushing off shoulder injury – he’s summed up how everyone feels

Marc Marquez warned Quartararo about surgery after seeing the crash, having been in that position before in his career. But the strength the Frenchman showed to go faster after his shoulder dislocation was ‘unbelievable’, as his Yamaha teammate Alex Rins puts it.

The Spaniard, who also made it automatically to Q2, could not comprehend how Quartararo got back onto the bike in the conditions he faced.

“When I came back in the motorhome, I saw the images of the crash again, with the doctors around him on the ground,” he said via GPOne.

“It’s unbelievable, because it really hurts. Something similar happened to me in Jerez, in 2021 I broke my collarbone ligaments.

“The next week we were back on the track, imagine getting back on these bikes in those conditions.”

Is Fabio Quartararo in contention for victory at the Italian Grand Prix?

Receiving the all clear from doctors after a check-up after practice, Quartararo put himself in a strong position for a podium at Mugello. The Yamaha rider will line up fourth behind Marc Marquez, Francesco Bagnaia and Alex Marquez.

The 26-year-old will be desperate to get points on the board after a torrid run of form in recent weeks. Quartararo has retired from the last three Grand Prix as he slides to ninth in the standings.

A ride height device failure heartbreakingly denied victory at Silverstone, while the Frenchman crashed out at Le Mans and Aragon. Quartararo has warned Yamaha could ‘get lost’ at Mugello after he encountered a chatter issue last time out.

Quartararo said it was ‘dangerous’ to ride his bike with the vibrations at Aragon. It seems Yamaha have found performance at Mugello, but that will certainly be hanging over him for Sunday’s race.
