Fabio Quartararo was cleared to take part in the Grand Prix of Italy despite dislocating his shoulder in practice. Quartararo remarkably progressed straight to Q2 minutes after the crash.

The Yamaha rider pleaded for help from the marshals after going down at turn four. He underwent an initial examination from MotoGP doctor Angel Charte in the paddock.

Quartararo then headed back to the garage and returned to the circuit, where he set the fifth fastest time. When the running was concluded, Yamaha sent him to a Florence hospital for a more detailed consultation.

It was determined that he’d suffered a ‘partial shoulder dislocation’. But the scan results confirmed that he was still in a condition to ride, albeit through the pain.

Quartararo ended up qualifying in fourth place, within two-tenths of Marquez’s pole position time.

Marc Marquez sends surgery warning to Fabio Quartararo after Italian Grand Prix crash

World championship leader Marc Marquez is an unwanted expert in shoulder problems. Back in 2013, his rookie season, he dislocated the joint at Silverstone.

Six years later, Marquez had to undergo surgery over the winter. That didn’t prevent him from winning his sixth world championship.

But speaking to AS, the Spaniard warned Quartararo that he needs to be cautious, particularly if there’s lasting instability. El Diablo hasn’t missed any races since he stepped up to MotoGP in 2019.

“I don’t know the status of his shoulder,” Marquez said. “In my case, the way my shoulders were, if I was out for less than three or four minutes, I could ride perfectly and there was no pain.

“It was more the instability that caused it to dislocate once, twice, three, or four times. After the third or fourth time, if you keep forcing it, you’ll end up having surgery, as it tends to pop out faster each time.”

Fear once overcame Marc Marquez on his Honda bike at Mugello

Marquez had a ‘very serious’ crash at Mugello in 2013. He admitted he was ‘afraid’ as he jumped off the bike while approaching the wall at 300 km/h.

A year later, Honda noticed that Marquez was ‘rolling off’ in the same part of the track. The Spaniard denied it, but the data proved otherwise.

It was clear that he was uncharacteristically afraid on a daunting circuit. Brad Binder set the record for the fastest top speed ever at this event in 2023.
