Francesco Bagnaia’s 2025 MotoGP season is slowly turning into a nightmare after retiring from the British Grand Prix.
It was the Ducati rider’s first non-finish of the year and followed on from a 16th place at the French Grand Prix. His last two races couldn’t have been much more miserable.
Bagnaia is suffering with the development direction of the GP25 bike, and it now vastly differs from the GP24 he had success with last year.
With 15 MotoGP races left to correct his woes in 2025, this season may already be a write-off. Spending time making sure that 2026 is a better campaign may be a wise idea.
Bagnaia must follow Ducati’s advice if he wants to avoid his first season as Marc Marquez’s teammate being classed as a disaster.
To some, his issues are visible, with Sylvain Guntoli noticing Bagnaia’s problems in colder conditions at Silverstone. The front end is not very responsive.

Valentino Rossi may want to rethink saying Francesco Bagnaia has no ‘weak point’ in MotoGP
Less than six months ago, Bagnaia was still widely considered to be the best rider on the grid, and a clear way ahead of some of his rivals.
Since then, Bagnaia has faced an ‘unusual’ Ducati situation, and his best form feels like it came a long time ago. He needs to rebuild his confidence to get back to that level.
Fellow countryman Valentino Rossi’s comments about him from last August may need to be reassessed just nine months on, given what has happened in 2025.
“[Jorge] Martin is there, he always manages to have that little bit more, he is very calm, he rides well and is incredibly fast,” he told Sky Sport Italia, according to Motorsport.com.
“He has improved a lot in all aspects [but] at the moment, Bagnaia does not have a weak point.”
Why Francesco Bagnaia might be in trouble for the rest of 2025
Ducati chief Davide Tardozzi has already refused the idea of a return to the GP24 for Bagnaia, even if it would make him more comfortable.
What may turn his head is the struggle suffered by all Ducati riders in the early stages of the British Grand Prix.
Even Marc Marquez plummeted down the order, with none of their riders being in the top four for an extended period.
If they carry on like this, they could be heading down a slippery slope, which could leave them behind their rivals by the end of the season. Change may be necessary for the Italian manufacturer.
Being behind their rivals would be a disaster for Bagnaia, who is already struggling to stay ahead of them with a solid advantage as is. It could come to a stage where points are a struggle.
