Marco Bezzecchi names the ‘brutal’ issue he has faced at Aprilia during the 2025 MotoGP season

Aprilia have suffered a bit of a nightmare start to the 2025 MotoGP season and sit rock bottom in the constructors’ standings after five races.

After signing two new riders for the campaign, they would have had high hopes. However, the MotoGP season couldn’t have started in worse fashion.

Jorge Martin’s pre-season accident saw him ruled out for the first three races, before another Aprilia crash on his return saw him cut from the action for even longer.

In his absence, Marco Bezzecchi has failed to step up as much as he would have liked. He sits ninth in the riders’ championship.

There are reasons for his woes, with Bezzecchi ‘constantly struggling’ with one Aprilia issue, failing to get to grips with their tyres so far.

Aprilia could have a very different bike soon, after admitting that they need an aero upgrade to fix their stability issues.

Marco Bezzecchi reveals ‘brutal’ MotoGP decelerations at Aprilia

Now that MotoGP has officially arrived in Europe for the summer part of the season, expect to see some upgrades arriving soon.

New parts were put to use in the first in-season test of the season at Jerez just a few weeks ago and teams will have gathered a lot of data on them.

Perhaps Aprilia can unlock more pace, but Bezzecchi has detailed what he appears to have been tired out by so far in 2025.

“When you’re lifting up, the air tends to bring you back, so you have to hold on to the handlebars, then as soon as you hit the brake lever it’s catapulted forward and the difficult thing becomes to keep your body back to balance the bike,” he told GPOne.

“The whole thing happens with today’s decelerations, which are brutal, it’s tiring on the upper body.”

Why Marco Bezzecchi has been impacted by Jorge Martin’s absence at Aprilia

Not having the reigning champion around means that Bezzecchi has had virtually no reference at the factory team all season.

Rookie Ai Ogura has performed well down at Trackhouse, but not everything is like for like in terms of spec and setup.

When his teammate returns, he’s going to need time to adjust and get up to speed again. Only then will he be able to have a good reference for the first time all year.

It’s going to be essential for him to work in tandem with Martin to ensure that the team catches up for the lost ground so far in 2025. Otherwise, it could end up being a very underwhelming year for them.
