Marco Bezzecchi confirms he ‘constantly struggled’ dealing with one Aprilia issue at the Qatar Grand Prix

Marco Bezzecchi may have just suffered his most worrying performance of the 2025 MotoGP campaign.

The Italian rider finished ninth at the Grand Prix of Qatar and was stuck in a midfield gaggle for much of the race.

Aprilia will have hoped for more from their weekend than they achieved, with returning reigning champion Jorge Martin sustaining another devastating injury late on with six broken ribs to add to his woes.

It ramps up the pressure on Bezzecchi, who has had to carry his team’s hopes for most of the season so far. It looks set to continue for even longer now.

Bezzecchi faces ‘trouble’ on Aprilia’s 2025 bike and struggles to extract much pace out of his machine over one lap.

For the first time, those issues plagued him on a Sunday too in Lusail. It’s a stark contrast from Bezzecchi being ‘quite happy’ to crash in Thailand.

Marco Bezzecchi ‘constantly struggled’ with tyres on Aprilia bike at the Qatar Grand Prix

After Maverick Vinales’ post-race demotion from second to 14th, Bezzecchi inherited some extra points. He now sits seventh in the MotoGP riders’ championship.

Speaking after a difficult Grand Prix, he told GPOne about the main thing he struggled with across the 22 laps.

“It was a difficult race like the whole weekend. I constantly struggled to manage the tyres, but at least I gained some points even though we are still a long way from the positions that count,” he said.

“On the technical front, compared to Saturday, we improved and the bike felt more stable. However, to get more stability, we lost power. Especially in the first few laps, with new tyres, I can’t push and overtake.

“Until the tyres start to drop and the level of the group becomes more similar I have to be on the defensive.”

Marco Bezzecchi brutally honest about Jorge Martin after ‘tough times’

As is the case up and down the grid, not all riders get along too well with each other. It’s the same case with Bezzecchi and new teammate Martin.

The two clashed in their Moto2 and Moto3 days before they managed to reach the premier class. Now they have to work together to bring success to their Italian employer.

Bezzecchi was brutally honest about Martin and admitted that he wouldn’t go to dinner with him if offered.

After yet another injury, it may be a while before the two are racing at the same time again. It may take the reigning champion even longer to come back from this fall.
