Marc Marquez’s best moments in MotoGP including first pole, win, title, and more

Marc Marquez has produced some iconic moments throughout his MotoGP career, so MotoGP News has taken a look at some of his best including pole and first win.

The Spaniard made an impact right when he joined the MotoGP grid in 2013, going on to dominate the season with Honda with 15 podiums and six victories to take his first title.

Marquez would go on to achieve another six titles, including four back-to-back with Honda, before he suffered an injury at the start of the 2020 season.

With an injury-plagued 2022 season as well, it took until 2024 before Marquez eventually got back into the top three in the riders’ standings. It was also the same year that he switched to Ducati from Honda, marking the first time that he’s not raced with the latter in his MotoGP career.

Where did Marc Marquez make his MotoGP debut?

Marquez made his MotoGP debut in the Grand Prix of Qatar in 2013, a year after winning the Moto2 title in 2012. The Spaniard had qualified sixth on the grid and made his way to third at the finish, behind Valentino Rossi and race winner Jorge Lorenzo, marking his first podium finish in the championship.

His first pole in MotoGP would come at the Grand Prix of the Americas at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. His time was 0.254s faster than teammate Dani Pedrosa, who qualified second and a full second quicker than defending champion Lorenzo.

When did Marc Marquez take his first podium finish in MotoGP?

Marquez took his first podium finish at the first race that he contested in MotoGP at Qatar, finishing in third place, having started from sixth place on the grid. Marquez had fought through the field and battled with Rossi for second in the closing laps, narrowly missing out at the end of the 22-lap saga.

Marc Marquez won his first MotoGP race at the 2013 Grand Prix of the Americas

Following on from his impressive debut in Qatar, Marquez would take his first victory at the second race at the Circuit of the Americas for the Grand Prix of the Americas.

It would mark the first win of a successful stint at COTA for Marquez, who would win seven times at the track and come close to setting an all-time MotoGP record.

Marquez would also set the record in becoming the youngest ever rider to win a premier class race at 20 years and 63 days, beating the 30-year-old record set by Freddie Spencer.

Where did Marc Marquez win his first MotoGP sprint event?

Sprints were introduced as regular fixtures in MotoGP in the 2023 season, but it would take until the 2024 Grand Prix of Aragon before Marquez took his first Sprint win.

Marquez went on to win the main race, which would be his first victory for Ducati and would put him into third in the riders’ championship.

Where did Marc Márquez win his first MotoGP riders’ championship?

Marquez won his first title at the Valencia Grand Prix, becoming the youngest in the series’ history. Having come into the round leading by 13 points, Marquez only needed to finish fourth to win the title.

After starting the race on pole, Marquez fell to third after a bad start. He then let teammate Pedrosa attack Lorenzo, who managed to fend off the Honda rider and win the race.

Pedrosa and Marquez finished the race second and third respectively, which was enough for the latter to clinch the title.
