Fermin Aldeguer is spending his rookie season in MotoGP with Gresini as a factory-contracted Ducati rider, yet has hit out at the unjustified ‘noise’ that met his debut.

The Bologna Bullets moved back in March 2024 to hand Aldeguer a two-year works MotoGP contract after his sublime showing at the end of the 2023 Moto2 season. Ducati were blown away with how the Spaniard saw out his second full season with four consecutive race wins.

Aldeguer had to wait another year before making his premier class debut on a Desmosedici GP24 at Gresini in the 2025 MotoGP season, though. And after a steady start, he has grown massively to compete for podium spots in the Grands Prix of the Americas, Qatar and Spain.

Gresini rookie Fermin Aldeguer slams the unjustified ‘noise’ about his place in MotoGP

Gresini are yet to see Aldeguer finish higher than the fifth place he secured at Lusail, having crashed out of P5 at the Circuit of the Americas and out of P4 at Jerez. Yet he was just 0.989 seconds away from the rostrum as Aldeguer got P5 in the Qatar GP for his first top-10 finish.

Also, Aldeguer proved he is not ‘overrated’ to Neil Hodgson with his performance during the Sprint Race at the Qatar GP. The Murcia native finished fourth in the 11-lap dash for his first Sprint points. Hodgson felt some had questioned Aldeguer’s place in MotoGP before his P4.

While the 20-year-old has never doubted himself, Aldeguer admits he heard the ‘noise’ from the ‘outside’ about his place in MotoGP, as well. Yet the Gresini gem notes that while he was only fifth in the 2024 Moto2 standings, his three wins equalled that of champion Ai Ogura.

“I never had any doubts about myself at all. Neither I nor those around me,” Aldeguer told Motorsport.com. “However, I did perceive them from the outside.

“[There were] a lot of doubts, even though I ended up winning the same [number of] races as the champion. So, in terms of speed, that noise wasn’t justified.”

Ogura won the 2024 Moto2 title with 274 points and a 40-point lead over Aron Canet in P2, while Aldeguer came fifth with 182. The Gresini rookie also won a race earlier than the now Trackhouse ace, too, as Aldeguer won in round four at Jerez instead of race six in Barcelona.

Aldeguer has even now overcome the noise that surrounded his inability to compete for the Moto2 title last season when inconsistency damaged his efforts. Also, Ducati team manager Davide Tardozzi thinks Aldeguer is ‘the future’ of MotoGP after growing into his rookie term.

Ducati general manager Luigi Dall’Igna is also a figure trying not to put any extra pressure on Aldeguer to perform during the Spaniard’s rookie campaign. Dall’Igna has told Aldeguer that he can finish last in every race and it will not harm their belief in his potential if he improves.
