Pedro Acosta has been one of the most talked-about MotoGP riders at the start of the 2025 campaign for various reasons.

The Spaniard’s future has been the subject of growing interest in the paddock, as KTM’s unstable situation continues to produce curveballs.

Acosta is under contract with the Austrian manufacturer until the end of the 2026 season, which is well-timed, as he will be able to decide on where to go before the new regulations.

He’s coming off the back of his best result of the season at the Grand Prix of Spain in front of his home fans, and his bike is starting to show some promise for the rest of the MotoGP season.

Acosta says KTM must solve qualifying issues if they want to be competitive this year, as it is costing them when it comes to Sunday.

His colleague and Tech3 rider Maverick Vinales complimented the 20-year-old in Jerez, and said Acosta has ‘more desire’ than any KTM rider because he is so young. His hunger is a good thing.

Pedro Acosta tapped the KTM logo at the Spanish Grand Prix when asked about his MotoGP future

It’s fair to say after five events, that the beginning of Acosta’s rookie season was both far more exciting and impressive than what 2025 has yielded so far.

He already had two podiums during his first three races on a satellite Tech3 bike, and was expected to be able to match those levels at the factory team.

He hasn’t, and rumours have linked him to a move to Honda for 2026, as well as VR46. Simon Patterson shared a story about one telling gesture he made in Spain.

“There’s obviously all that was going on at the weekend. He was quite clever in his kind of Pedro Acosta way at the weekend,” he said.

“Someone asked him about it in a debrief and he just kind of went and just tapped the KTM logo on his shirt and said ‘It’s on the left, over the heart.’

“So I think that he’s still kind of tied to KTM, but I think that he’s only tied to them for one year unless they build up a very very good 850cc bike that appears sometime next year.”

Would Honda be a good move for Pedro Acosta to make for 2026?

With KTM’s future in MotoGP uncertain beyond the end of 2026, when all of their riders’ contracts are set to end, it may be a good move to at least test the waters in the market.

Honda are the manufacturer who are likely to be able to offer the most money to Acosta. Their recent improvements make any potential deal a lot more attractive.

Whether or not it’s down to the concessions system, they made a lot of progress over the winter and after two dismal years, finally look like challenging for the top 10 every weekend.

VR46 having the dominant Ducati bike, and one of the greatest mentors of all as team owner could be a good move too, but they’re a satellite team and who knows how long the GP24/25’s advantage will last.

With the new regulations could come a shake-up in the order. Honda may end up with a faster bike than their Italian riders.
