The Grand Prix of Spain is one of the classic MotoGP races, having been held at the Circuito de Jerez since 1989.
Several riders have seen success at the iconic circuit, which features just 13 corners and is 2.7 miles long, with it being one of the staple events on the European part of the calendar.
Jerez currently has a contract to continue hosting the Grand Prix of Spain until the end of 2025, having agreed an extension in 2023 to continue hosting the race. Beyond then, the future is uncertain for the race, as Dorna expressed interest in moving races away from the Iberian region.
F1 teams have also raced around the Grand Prix track in the 1990s, while also using it as a test facility as recently as the 2014 season. With that in mind, here are the most successful riders in the Grand Prix of Spain.

Valentino Rossi is the most successful MotoGP rider in Jerez
Valentino Rossi is the most successful MotoGP rider at Jerez, having taken seven victories across the MotoGP era and all-time premier class.
His first win in the all-time premier class was in 2001, when he won on the 500cc racing for Honda. The win was key to his success that year, in which he won his first premier class championship.
His first win in the MotoGP class came in 2002 on the way to his first title with Honda, winning the race by 1.1 seconds from Gresini Racing’s Daijiro Kato.
His final victory for Honda would be in 2003, before he won for the first time with Yamaha in 2005. Rossi secured victory in controversial circumstances, after he forced home favourite Sete Gibernau wide on the final lap to take the win.
Rossi would go on to take wins in 2007, and 2009, with his last victory coming in 2016 with Yamaha.

The Grand Prix of Spain has seen seven repeat winners
Over the years there have been seven repeat winners of the Grand Prix of Spain, including four wins for Mick Doohan in the 1990s in the 500cc class.
Rossi was the first rider to achieve multiple wins in the MotoGP era, followed by Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa. Marc Marquez won the race for the first time in 2014, going on to do the same in 2018 and 2019.
Following a bad crash at the track in 2020, Marquez was ‘afraid’ his arm would never recover, which would see him not win at the track in subsequent years.
