Fermin Aldeguer has enjoyed a steady start to his MotoGP career after Ducati placed the Spaniard at Gresini Racing to graduate into the premier class in the 2025 season.
Ducati locked Aldeguer up with a MotoGP contract in March 2024 after impressing in Moto2 yet his season largely proved inconsistent. So, Aldeguer faced many doubters upon debuting in MotoGP after being dubbed overrated, having only been fifth in the 2024 Moto2 rankings.
His early efforts in the premier class for Gresini paled in comparison to fellow 2025 rookie Ai Ogura, too. While Aldeguer could only get P13 in the Grand Prix of Thailand, the Trackhouse Racing rider came fourth as Ogura had the best MotoGP debut since Marc Marquez in 2013.

Fermin Aldeguer could get ‘scared’ on a MotoGP bike at Mugello for the Grand Prix of Italy
Ogura also finished P8 in Argentina before being disqualified for non-homologated software, which promoted Aldeguer to P16. It was only in round three that the Spaniard began to find his pace as Aldeguer impressed despite crashing from P5 in the Grand Prix of the Americas.
What the 20-year-old learned in Austin paid dividends last time out in Lusail. Aldeguer came fifth in the Grand Prix of Qatar and was even 0.989 seconds from a maiden MotoGP podium. But the Gresini rookie has hinted he could be ‘scared’ when Aldeguer soon goes to Mugello.

Mugello welcomes the 2025 MotoGP calendar to stage the Grand Prix of Italy on June 20-22 in round nine. Aldeguer is unsure how he will react to the speed MotoGP bikes hit at Mugello, with Brad Binder recording the all-time top speed record of 366.1km/h (227.5mph) in 2023.
Aldeguer has already ridden around Mugello on a 1,000cc bike before and reached 300km/h (186mph) when the Murcia native hit the crest prior to Turn 1. He visited the iconic circuit in the rolling Tuscan hills in 2021 whilst racing in Moto2 plus dominating the CEV Moto2 series.
He told Motosan: “The thing about Austin is that you have to be more attentive because the bumps make the bike move, and you have to be aware of how you hit the brakes at the bottom. It’s different We’ll see when I get to Mugello.
“I remember how in 2021 I went to Mugello and rode a 1,000 [bike] there for the first time. I reached the gradient change at 300km/h and the bike lifted off the front, and wow! I was scared the first few times, so we’ll see with the MotoGP.”
Mugello has seen all 13 of the top speed records for MotoGP bikes including five set by Ducatis

MotoGP bikes are significantly faster than the Moto2 machines that Aldeguer had ridden on for the last four years before graduating to the premier class with Gresini on a factory Ducati contract this year. Moto2 bikes usually have a top speed in the region of 295km/h (183mph).
So, it will only be natural if Aldeguer feels ‘scared’ flying into San Donato (Turn 1) when the Gresini rookie visits Mugello racing a MotoGP bike for the first time for the 2025 Italian GP. Riders must use the pit lane exit paint to open their line before riding the crest and braking.
