Carlos Ezpeleta reveals what Jorge Martin has been saying about MotoGP Sprints in safety commission meetings

Jorge Martin is nearing his return from a devastating pre-season injury which has seen him miss the first three races of the 2025 MotoGP campaign.

The Spaniard has been forced to wait before making his official Aprilia debut, with test rider Lorenzo Savadori taking his place.

Martin suffered a setback in his recovery shortly before the season opener in Thailand, after falling off a bike while in training for his return.

Any hope of him retaining his MotoGP title is gone but he can still have a successful season if he can help his new team develop their bike in a positive direction.

Martin may only return to full speed at the summer break, but there is no rush for him to put himself in any danger. He must prioritise his well-being and fitness.

Martin’s Grand Prix of Americas appearance didn’t go to plan as his surprise was foiled before the weekend, but it did show his mechanics that he is a team player and ready to support them.

Jorge Martin is a big fan of MotoGP sprint races, ‘they could do three’

In a bid to mix up and bring more excitement to the sport, MotoGP introduced sprint races ahead of the 2023 season.

After a sample size of two years, feedback on them is largely positive. Both the fans and the riders are in support of them.

Speaking in an interview with MARCA, Carlos Ezpeleta says that the reigning champion is a big fan of the Saturday races.

“We are very happy, I think the pilots have adapted very well. Jorge [Martin] always joked in the ‘Safety Commission’ saying that, for him, they could do three Sprints on the weekend and that’s it.”

After winning eight fewer races than Francesco Bagnaia in 2024, sprint races were a pivotal part of Martin’s maiden title win.

It may be why he is so fond of them. It’s an opportunity to push the limits of the bike with few consequences.

How well does Jorge Martin ride at the Qatar Grand Prix?

With Martin set to return in Qatar, he begins the process of rebuilding his confidence and speed on a MotoGP bike.

Even if he was still with Ducati, it would have been a very difficult proposition to jump back onto the bike and be quick straight away.

Add into the mix that he is starting on a new machine, with very little experience of it and he faces a mountain of a task all of a sudden.

The Spaniard has only finished higher than 10th once in Qatar when he came third in the season-opener last year.

He would be very content with replicating such a score this time around, but he has to keep his expectations ahead of a return realistic.
