MotoGP paddock cameras capture Pedro Acosta telling rival team boss to ‘talk to’ his manager

Pedro Acosta’s future is becoming the subject of growing speculation in the MotoGP paddock. KTM have made a disappointing start to the 2025 season, and some suspect that he wants out.

After the first three races, Acosta sits 13th in the championship, level on points with Tech3 rider Enea Bastianini. He’s had two Sunday falls already, with his crash at the Grand Prix of the Americas forcing him to retire.

Accidents were a theme in his rookie season, and they have continued into 2025. But Acosta may feel he has to override the bike given its performance limitations.

It’s worth noting that the 20-year-old’s deal runs until the end of next year, like the majority of the grid. However, Keith Huewen suspects that Acosta has a get-out clause, one that may be tied to KTM’s results.

Pedro Acosta tells Paolo Campinoti to speak to Albert Valera

A video shared on social media by DAZN shows Acosta speaking to Pramac boss Paolo Campinoti in the paddock. After an embrace, the five-time podium-finisher made an eye-catching remark in reference to his manager.

“You talk to [Albert] Valera,” he said. “Yeah, I’ll see you later.”

Acosta likely knew he was on camera at this point, and he may not have been talking about a potential Pramac seat. But either way, the clip is an unwelcome development for KTM’s press office.

Pramac sit second from bottom in the MotoGP standings, though Miguel Oliveira has missed the last two races through injury. Jack Miller showed the potential of the Yamaha M1 with a P5 in Austin.

Ducati are 75 points clear in the constructors’ championship as it stands, and the remaining four teams are all within an eight-point gaggle. Yamaha may be a better long-term bet than KTM, particularly amid the latter’s financial crisis.

Pedro Acosta ignored wise Kevin Schwantz advice at the Americas Grand Prix

Theory’s a theory that Acosta will ‘never’ join Ducati as long as Marc Marquez is on board. The presence of the six-time premier-class champion would be a clear obstacle to winning championships.

If that is indeed his stance, then Yamaha may look to capitalise. There have also been strong links with Honda, who could have multiple vacancies at the end of the year – Joan Mir is the only rider under contract for 2026.

Speaking before the Americas GP, Kevin Schwantz told Acosta to keep his head up. But there are clear signs that the frustration is getting to him.

Acosta bemoaned KTM’s ‘brutal’ rear vibrations, revealing that it’s ‘the topic of conversation’ every time he pits. His stablemates have also made that complaint, and it seems the Austrian squad are at a loss as they search for a solution.
