The Circuit of the Americas has been a mainstay on the MotoGP calendar for the last decade, so with that in mind MotoGP News has taken a look at the most successful teams.

The COTA circuit is located in the US state of Texas, specifically in the city of Austin, having been first opened in 2012 when it hosted Formula 1. The following year in 2013 it hosted its first MotoGP race, having also been homologated to FIM standards.

Since then it has hosted a race every year apart from 2020, when the race was cancelled due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Only a few select teams have won the Grand Prix of the Americas over the previous editions of the race. Similarly, there has been a small list of bike makers that have powered the winning rider to victory.

Honda and Marc Marquez win first Grand Prix of the Americas

The first race held in 2013 was won by Spaniard Marc Marquez during his dominant season, in which he took six wins and 16 podiums to win his first of six MotoGP titles.

His win at COTA was the first that season and the first of his career, having secured pole position. As soon as the race got underway, Marquez was in an intense battle with Dani Pedrosa for the lead.

Marquez would stretch his advantage to 1.5s at the end of the Grand Prix, becoming the youngest rider to win in MotoGP at just 20 years and 63 days old.

Honda are the most successful team at Circuit of the Americas

Only three teams have won at the Circuit of the Americas, largely owing to Marquez taking seven victories out of the nine times the race has been held.

Marquez was riding for the factory Honda team throughout this period of dominance, winning back-to-back between 2013 and 2018.

His run of victories would be ended by Alex Rins riding for the factory Suzuki team, although Marquez would find himself back on the step in 2021 again with Honda.

Another win for Rins in 2023 riding for LCR Team would seal another victory for the manufacturer. The only non-Honda manufacturer to win was Maverick Vinales in 2024, who won with Aprilia.
