Aprilia have suffered an almost disastrous start to the 2025 MotoGP season after losing their superstar rider and failing to achieve a top five in two races.
Jorge Martin suffered a crash and further complications during pre-season, which has seen him ruled out of the first three races of the year.
Not only have Aprilia lost the performance that he brings to their bike, but the experience and feedback in developing their bike which has been lost could be critical too.
With the workload shifting to teammate Marco Bezzecchi, the pressure got to him at the Argentina Grand Prix as he crashed out at turn one. They had neither factory bike in the race after one corner.
A Pramac chief is ‘convinced’ Martin will challenge Marc Marquez when he returns to the bike. He may have to wait until the end of April for a return to competitive action, though.
After nearly two months of attempting to recover, people inside Aprilia ‘doubt’ Martin’s return in Qatar and believe that a comeback for his home race in Spain is more realistic.

Lorenzo Savadori admits he is not at 100% fitness ahead of Grand Prix of Americas
After scoring a sixth-place in Thailand, it appeared that Aprilia could challenge to be the second-fastest team this year.
But they followed it up with a miserable performance. Bezzecchi was ‘quite happy’ to crash in Thailand and repeated it in Argentina, with bigger consequences. His lap one tangle with Fabio Quartararo saw him retire and suffer injuries.
Teammate Lorenzo Savadori also suffered an injury in qualifying and missed the race. He admitted to GPOne that he hasn’t fully recovered from them in time for the next event in Austin.
“After the injury in Argentina I am still not 100 percent physically, but I will still give it my all,” said Savadori.
“I can’t wait to try this beautiful track and continue the development, helping to make the RS-GP25 improve more and more.”

Why Aprilia are in trouble without Jorge Martin on their 2025 MotoGP bike
While Aprilia have a terrific backup and test rider for delivering feedback, he doesn’t have the edge of pace required to cut it at the top level.
Savadori trundled around at the back in Thailand and sat out of the race in Argentina after injuring his shoulder in Q1.
Having a one-bike operation, relying on another injured rider to pick up some results is not a recipe for success. Rushing Martin back too soon could do damage though.
Martin is feeling ‘a lot of anxiety’ watching Ai Ogura perform well for Trackhouse. He doubts whether he can extract as much from an Aprilia package.
If a rookie at a satellite team can deliver to that level, the reigning champion can match his levels even if he is not at 100% fitness. He has proven his talents on plenty of occasions.
