Marc Marquez possesses his best chance to fight for a seventh MotoGP title this decade after making the move to Ducati’s factory outfit for 2025.
He will partner two-time champion Francesco Bagnaia, replacing Enea Bastianini at the Italian team who has moved to KTM Tech3 for the upcoming season.
Marquez showed that he still has the ability to compete at the top of the grid in 2024 after winning three races en route to third in the championship for Gresini Racing.
The Spaniard hadn’t finished inside the top six of the title fight since 2019 – the year when he won the last of his six MotoGP crowns at the age of 26.
Marquez has been suffering with too much grip at Ducati since testing their bike, finding more speed as he extends his race stints.
Ducati signed him with the expectation that he would compete with and challenge Bagnaia. It will be a titanic battle between two of the best riders on the grid this season.

Marc Marquez’s ‘extreme talent’ will earn him Ducati respect over Francesco Bagnaia
Ducati saw amazing things in Marquez’s data after snubbing Jorge Martin for a role with the team in 2025.
Martin claimed his maiden title by 10 points from Bagnaia but has been left to move away from Ducati to Aprilia Racing after they preferred to sign his Spanish rival.
It makes his title defence incredibly difficult but opens the door further for one of the Ducati riders to steal his crown from him.

Speaking on the Oxley Bom Podcast, Peter Bom mentioned how Marquez will earn respect for his extreme talents, giving him a fair platform to compete against Bagnaia.
“People in the box at [Ducati], it’s too easy to say ‘all these Italians are on Pecco’s side’. Because racers and top engineers like Gigi [Luigi Dall’lgna],” he said.
“They recognise and respect extreme talent. For me, Marquez is the most talented of the bunch. Obviously, he’s not perfect but they respect that, recognise it a lot. They know what’s coming.”
Why Francesco Bagnaia is the MotoGP title favourite over Marc Marquez
Bagnaia has to be considered the favourite for the MotoGP title in 2025, even if Marquez is going to benefit from having better resources.
His year in the Ducati setup will aid him to an extent, but his Italian rival has been with the team for the last four seasons.
Some at Ducati were against signing Marquez for 2025 over fears that he would upset the order within the team, but they decided to put those worries to one side for now.

Bagnaia has finished inside the top two of the championship in all four years and could’ve won four consecutive titles if he had scored another 36 points between his two failures in 2021 and 2024.
Marquez may have to shake off some rust in the early stages of the season considering it has been more than five years since he competed for a crown.
The hunger and potential to win a seventh title shouldn’t be doubted though, and may be the only reason needed not to doubt him in 2025. If he won three races on a satellite bike, how much further can he go?
