MotoGP is set for a thrilling season in 2025 as multiple new storylines are set to be ignited and rivalries renewed on track.

Marc Marquez is set to be in possession of a championship-contending bike at Ducati after a long absence from fighting for top honours.

His sixth title in 2019 was the last sign of him being in title contention and he has continually dropped off since but gets an opportunity to bounce back at the age of 31 this season.

For the ultimate comeback story, Marquez has to overcome his new two-time champion teammate Francesco Bagnaia who has just suffered an agonising defeat.

The Italian scored eight more wins than Jorge Martin in 2024 and still missed out on claiming a third crown.

Bagnaia spent his honeymoon thinking about his 2024 errors where making one less probably would’ve seen him walk away with a third consecutive title.

Aleix Espargaro tips Pedro Acosta to be in 2025 MotoGP championship contention

Despite lingering financial woes, KTM heads into the 2025 season with one of their best opportunities to perform in recent history.

Not only has their bike made progress, but they have an incredibly strong rider pairing with Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta at the helm.

Acosta has made moves behind the scenes after KTM’s struggles and only has a contract for the next two seasons.

Der Standard reported that the team could leave the grid after 2026, but they have two seasons of racing ahead of them before that.

Speaking to GPOne, Aleix Espargaro backed Acosta to compete for the MotoGP title in 2025 in his second campaign.

“My former team is doing a good job, but KTM can enjoy an incredible star like Pedro, so without a doubt will be among the title contenders, although the Desmosedici is to date much superior to the others,” he said.

Could Pedro Acosta struggle with KTM in 2025?

Acosta hasn’t been back to KTM’s factory since a MotoGP commitment statement which is less than ideal preparation not long before the season starts.

Their 2025 RC16 bikes are set to be assembled this week ahead of the start of the season and there’s optimism over whether they can compete with Ducati for a title.

It might be too much to expect of them early in the season with the GP25 bike getting off to an excellent start in testing.

With some development, Acosta and Binder could be in a position to compete for victories and challenge the Italian manufacturer in the summer.

Marco Melandri fears KTM’s financial issues will fail Acosta but it seems that nothing has changed within their camp for the time being.
