KTM’s current crisis could be a disaster for incoming bright star Pedro Acosta, who believed he had just earned himself an incredible opportunity with a factory team.

The 20-year-old finished sixth in the standings for Tech3 last year, claiming five podiums and one pole position along the way.

He showed enough promise to find a multi-year factory deal with KTM, only for the company to fall into financial struggles after the end of the season.

They remain committed to the sport for now, but they may be off the grid after the end of 2026.

It would coincide with the end of the current regulations, which are set to be overhauled for 2027, possibly shaking up the current grid.

As one of MotoGP’s brightest stars Acosta is almost guaranteed to be racing then, but where it will be is anyone’s guess.

Pedro Acosta is making ‘moves’ in the MotoGP rider market amid KTM struggles

The last thing that the young Spaniard will want to do is curtail his career by being left without a ride at any stage in the next few years.

Stability will give him a platform to progress and develop as a rider, something he showed signs of towards the end of 2024 with four top-10 finishes in his last five Grands Prix.

Now Autosport reports that the KTM riders are unsure of the team’s future and this has prompted them to make ‘moves’ in the market.

Acosta has been the most productive, which should be no surprise given his reputation and the interest that he should field.

There are less than two months left before the opening race of 2025 in Thailand, with many decisions to be made before then, but bosses have iterated that the team will be there.

Where could Pedro Acosta sign if he leaves KTM prematurely?

There aren’t too many exciting options on the grid for Acosta if he is to change outfits before the start of the 2026 season.

Honda may have a seat open if Luca Marini continues to fail to impress. The Italian is under pressure to deliver after scoring just 14 points in 20 grands prix last year.

Pramac signed Jack Miller to a one-year deal after he was snubbed by KTM, but if the Aussie has a poor campaign he could find himself replaced by Acosta for a second year running.

Finally, LCR Honda may have two openings with Johann Zarco and Somkiat Chantra but it would be a surprise to see him join a team that has won two races in their history.
